Curious. If he's not playing because of medical reasons, wouldn't he be unable to play anywhere?

Is there ANY chance his benching is NOT medical? Or is this a kid who really thinks he is fine and would risk his health to keep playing.

I am really sad for Zeke - he's been one of my favorite players and will be missed. I was really hoping for a miracle with him.....

On the surface, this makes no sense whatsoever. If true, there's a lot under the surface that's not general public knowledge.

Since Zeke made the switch over to D, he has been one of the guys I'm always watching. Starting with the first defensive series against Hawaii 2 years ago, it's been clear that he's a special player. I'm really sad to see him go.

Nichols said the former Randolph County High star told him he's "done at Alabama."

Surprising...to say the least.

Unless someone has a scoop that says otherwise, I just interpret this to mean he is hoping to find some place where the team doctor might see things a little differently and clear him medically to play.

That's probably not a real bright idea. If Bama won't clear him, there's probably a pretty doggone good reason.

But I'm sure this must be terribly frustrating to Zeke.

To quash the murmurs, the reason is medical and there's not a chance in hell, given his condition, that he's playing at Bama. There was talk of getting a second opinion. I don't really think that even a second opinion would help with playing for UA. The family has not wanted any details on his health released, so it's not going to happen here. However, I will say that kids get clearance to play all the time with the medical warning that they may be aggravating a condition which will be painful for the rest of their lives. When the docs say "no play," they're generally fearful of permanent disability or death. Of course, I'd like to be wrong on this call...

same here.... I cant wait to see if he goes somewhere, and view his stats.... Someone keeping an eye on him?

This is one of the only times I can ever recall not being upset about someone wanting to leave. I like Zeke and I hope he does get to play one more year, even if its not for us.

I know all he wants to do is play football and you have to at least commend him for trying, it shows his love of the game. And I think it also shows a lot of respect that he's trying to do this quietly and not play it out in the media.

I would think it would exponentially compound any liability with a school that let him play, considering he would be transferring to that school for the specific purpose of medical clearance.

I'm just glad to hear another success story on the academic side. I was worried about his future until I heard today that he had graduation sewn up for August.

I watched the Georgia game the other night and that INT he had against them and the play against FSU where he dove over the blocker, at the QB were two of my favorite plays last season. Ultra-talented, super-Athletic and wrecklessly aggressive players like Zeke are gonna be at every position in the not-too-distant future.

The way he could see the field again would only possibly be in the professional ranks where he and possibly sign away any liability for what happens to him - sort of like Teddy Bruschi did after he had a stroke.

I think that's very appropriate in Zeke's case. Like everyone else, I wish him the best whatever he does, but I certainly hope he doesn't let youthful exuberance cause him to make a bad decision.
