Only major conferences should be part of BCS

IMO it is simply wrong that some of these teams from some of these lower tier conferences get a shot at the BCS. I don't want to hear how the small guy might be as good as the big boys. The fact that there may be an upset in a one game bowl situation every now and then means nothing. Usually in those games the team from the major conference shows up uninspired and with little to nothing to play for. In reality, these smaller schools play schedules that are a joke and if any of them played in the SEC they would be .500 at best. I include the Big East as a "lower tier" conference.

The reason I am against this is that it is not fair for the good teams. This is supposed to be a reward but what reward is it to play a team like Utah, Boise State or Cinncinati? It takes a lot of the fun out of it for the fans and the team. Bama is having to get ready to try to get up and face a team that is probably the 4th or 5th best they have played this season. They have everything to lose and nothing to gain. The entire nation will be rooting against them and rooting for the "underdog". I just don't think its fair to the teams in the major conference.

Well, I totall disagree with just about everything you have stated. This GATOR will be pulling for the CRIMSON TIDE with every fiber of his being, and I can just about bet there are a couple million more just like me. ROLL TIDE - 4th or 5th - then it should be a good game!!!!

Not only the country, but all of our SEC rivals will be pulling against us as well. I certainly hope we beat them by 50 at the least.

Ohio State's playing Texas? Penn State's playing USC? Both of those Big-10 "powerhouses (ROFL)" have amazing records, but seriously, they'll be beaten to a pulp when the clock strikes zero on the scoreboard and you can bank on that.

The problem is that the BCS was originally setup, and still has as its main focus, matching up #1 vs #2 in a National Championship game. That's pretty much the only thing it's setup for. So the rest of the bowl games really don't matter that much to the BCS. They try to match up the top 10-12 teams in bowl games to make it exciting, but the main goal is to get #1 to play against #2 so we can declare a champion.

Now let's to beat the Utes!

Nah, conference alignments should have nothing to do with it now that we have the BCS - it should go by the BCS rankings top to bottom. My fear is that one day we'll have a smallish play-off system but it will be based on the outdated bowl-invitation method - as it stands right now, you can be an average team and get a BCS bid because you won your crappy conference title...

I've often wondered how long it will take for Notre Dame to realize they can setup their schedule with creampuffs and get into the NC game.

That said, Utah is not a bad team. We best not consider them such.

Didn't they try that the last two years???

Seriously, their schedule is pathetic.

If Bama beats Utah, they'll both be 1-1 in BCS games and Utah will still have a better record in BCS games than 17 BCS conference schools. Non-BCS schools will be 2-2, which is, of course, average for all BCS conference schools. With the exception of Hawai'i, non-BCS schools have proven worthy opponents in these games, and I am confident Utah will do the same on January 2.

Most fans would consider you to be 0-1 if you lose to Bama. Seriously, Pitt doesn't count. They should not have been in that game and you know it.

Utah needs to beat Bama, or play them very closely, to prove that they belong, IMO...

Does Bama need to beat Utah to prove they belong? If Texas kills Ohio State and USC kills Penn State, does it show the Big Ten doesn't belong? I think not, and the same is true for Utah. Win or lose, Utah belongs because the corrupt system the big conferences have created says they do.

Utah belongs this year because the rules say they belong - thanks to a pitifully weak schedule. :)

Sorry - I didn't mean that the way that it sounded. Personally, I don't like the BCS or the idea that any conference is "better" than another. That reeks of elitism, and I do not support that sort of thing.

Perhaps I should have said "arrived". Clearly you have been very good for a few years, under a few coaches. A win over Bama would solidify that notion. Bama "arrived" a long time ago. The quest, once you have arrived, is to stay on top and win championships, not just to win individual games.

However, a loss to Bama will cast serious doubt over how far you have come in the grand scheme...
