I know it's way too early, but .....

How big do you think the 2010 class will be?

How do you think the 2010 in-state class will stack up talent-wise? What positions are strong/weak?
You are right it is way too early to predict that. It does look like it will be a smaller class again. Somewhere around 20 or so, but that remains to be worked out.

Three Elite 11 ball boys stand out
Every year a few underclassmen are selected to come work the Elite 11 for a chance to get some reps in during practices. Past quarterbacks who have served as Elite 11 ball boys include Jamarcus Russell (LSU/Oakland Raiders), Cody Hawkins (Colorado). Ryan Mallett (Arkansas) and Jonathan Crompton (Tennessee).

This year's Elite 11 featured a trio of diversely talented and hard-working QBs who surely will be heard from down the road out of the Class of 2010.

Devin Gardner (Inkster, Mich.) first impressed the coaches at the Columbus NIKE Camp in May. At nearly 6-4 and 195 pounds, Gardner stands out physically in a crowd, and when he throws it around, you definitely take notice. Gardner is fast becoming a top prospect for 2010 and already has offers from Michigan State, Bowling Green, Toledo and Cincinnati, and many other schools are showing a lot of interest.

I know it's early, but...

I would think the 2010 class will be a good bit bigger than that. We have around 20 juniors on scholarship right now, and that's a lot. Even if you assume we are up against the limit of 85 when the 2009 class reports, just do the recruiting math for possible class size. You have about 20 then-seniors leaving the program, and I think we can safely assume that you will see another two or three kids bite the dust between Fall of 2009 and Fall of 2010. Moreover, you have to figure there will be two or three academic casualties in the class as well. When you put it all together, I think you are looking at room for around 25-27 recruits.

Now we might not sign a class that big, but I do think we'll have the size if we want to.

That is why I said it is 'way too early to predict' and it 'looks like' a smaller class somewhere around 20. I said that because of the 20 juniors on scholarship. Obviously attrition could play a big part in raising that number. Just since I last posted in this thread Sam Burnthall has left the team so it will be a factor. I think in the next year and a half the current rate of attrition will slow down with CNS getting his players in place. You also have to factor in contributing walk-ons like K Leigh Tiffin, CB Tyrone King, and maybe even LB Michael DeJohn that could and in Tiffin's case should be awarded a scholarship.

Top prospects of 2010 starting to emerge
Signing Day is less than six months away for the class of 2009, but the rising juniors are already making names for themselves. Several have received verbal offers, with written offers given out Sept. 1.

Two juniors are in strong contention for the top prospect in 2010: Craig Sanders, defensive end from Ariton High School, and Jarrick Williams, safety from Blount High School in Prichard. Sanders has early offers from Alabama, Georgia Tech and Southern Miss. Williams has received offers from Alabama and Auburn.

Braxton Chitty, quarterback from Northview High School in Dothan, has received scholarship offers from Alabama and Auburn. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect could also play receiver on the next level.

Well it happened, today CNS announced both Leigh Tiffin and Tyrone King were put on scholarship.

LT Quinterrius Eatmon is a Bama prospect in the 2010 recruiting class.

Vigor offensive line tips the scales at almost 300 pounds per man
What's the purpose of skipping lunch?" 6-foot-6, 310-pound Quinterrius Eatmon said. "That's called suicide."

Vigor coach Kerry Stephenson has built the Wolves' offense around the big men on campus, calling them an "insurance policy" for 164-pound quarterback Keith Ray.

The five starters — 305-pound Robinson at center, 310-pound Tychious Everett at right guard, 275-pound Trevante Jones at left guard, 286-pound Steven Grandison at right tackle and 310-pound Eatmon at left tackle — have become the nucleus of the offense. The top two reserve linemen are 310-pound Robert Norwood and 235-pound Stanley Howze.

I noticed that of the several 2010 prospects we sent written offers that the majority of them we were there first big offer. one or two had us and another school at the top with the other team not offering yet and others had offers from schools like Ole Miss and State. That should help us if it turns into a close race with some of these guys as we were the first to send them an offer. Always helps to get started early... I guess the same holds true for duck season at the barn.:eek2:

OT Luke Charpentier lists Bama and LSU as his early favorites.

Charpentier makes an impact at John Curtis
The football program at John Curtis Christian School in River Ridge, La., is known for two things: running the ball and winning. Last season, it picked up a transfer that will allow it to continue to do a lot of both.

John Curtis coach J.T. Curtis is the second winningest coach in high school football history, securing 22 Louisiana state titles since 1974. His physically imposing veer option offense has been key to his success, and his offense got a big boost this season when 2010 offensive line prospect Luke Charpentier joined the team.

WR Vincent Sanders from Mississippi is interested in Alabama and he lists them among his early favorites.

Top junior takes in SEC visits
Who else is the junior hearing from?

"I have spoken with Coach Saban at Alabama. I have spoken with the defensive coordinator at Florida State this summer too. UAB invited me to their game Saturday, but I did not get a chance to make it. I also went to the MSU game last Saturday when they played S' East LA."
