Thank you for being the voice of reason during this process. It’s made me realize that I am an IDIOT. RTR
Not an idiot, just understandably impatient. Everyone is learning how this staff operates. We did not know for sure, especially after the unsatisfactory results from last year. But it appears that they are very disciplined in refraining from violating their own evaluations in regard to pay. Nevertheless, though it doesn’t look like it will be frequent, they are willing go after a high-priced player like with Coleman.

If they sign Green that will be a terrific haul on both lines without anyone breaking the bank. It would be nice to add a proven, starting caliber RB, some lesser WRs for depth and practice and a dream would be a proven SEC starting LT, though they have multiple promising candidates. Also, Arion Carter.

The important thing to know here is that there were not, to my knowledge actual roster limits before. Dabo made a huge fuss about this rule when it was implemented. I think they were travel roster limits, but not total roster limits. So you could have tons of walk ons. There's also a clause that allows for players to be grandfathered in.

But anyway, now the new limit actually increased from 85 to 105 scholarship players. So you can dramatically increase the quality of your players, but not the quantity! That's the distinction here, if you look at Jess's list it's heavily littered with walk-ons that most people here have never heard of or discussed, who are very unlikely to ever play or contribute for the most part.
Previously they had a 110 limit for fall camp and the rest of the walkons could join when classes started. The SEC had a 70 man travel roster as well.

The other thing about the 105 man absolute limit is that you can give partial schollys, so most former walk-ons will probably get some help, even if it isn't a full ride.

From a more practical standpoint, what I've been hearing is that most teams will probably evolve towards a 65-75 man "scholarship plus NIL roster" because they can't afford more guys and then flesh things out with scholly/partial scholly only rosters that will be part lower star guys and part former walk ons. But I think that will vary from school to school.

Today, I'm waiting to hear the news on Nico Brown and Terrance Green. Both are on the visits this weekend. If all goes well, that will give us 17 players. Alabama had 22 players entering the portal. This would allow Bama to shift their focus remaining positions:

1 OL- (Ole Miss Ethan Fields???)

2-3 WRs- They have time to look for "gems" through the remaining players in portal and keep that in mind, Indiana and Miami has 5 days after championship game. If they add Nico Brown, then that leaves them with 2 WRs and they can probably find WRs easily after that. I wouldn't be shocked if we snag a receiver from Miami again.

1 OLB-Kentucky's Javeon Campbell and South Carolina's Desmond Umeozulu. We just need development type that can improve throughout the year and hopefully take over next year's spot. This is not urgent need, but a check box.

1 DT- Oregon Terrance Green. That will give Alabama starting experience.

1- RB I necessarily don't think we need one more, but we had string of injuries last year and I don't think they want to take a chance again. Just a Running back with potential upside talent.

Anything else at other position is a bonus. Ha-ha Clinton-dix 's brother is in portal.. they could bring him in. I think Alabama will be comfortable with Roster number at 85-90 area.

If Alabama fills out their needs, I don't see Alabama stopping for the next two weeks.

I expect attention to shift to coaching staff sometime next week. There will be movements.

some information on our latest pick up
Delgatty is 6'4 and 305 lbs. that's ideal for a center. Brailsford was 6'2 and 290 lbs.
Delgatty only gave up one sack while playing 1,316 snaps!! I don't care what level of CFB you played, that's just downright impressive as it gets!
he has 2 years of eligibility remaining. unless something unforeseen happens, I believe we have an experienced center set for the next two seasons.
If we can keep him!

What I hope to see the most is for Alabama to try to fully leverage their athletic department (top 3 in revenue) funds fully. This means close to maxing out their scholarships and of course maxing out the university NIL allotment, and pushing as much as that as possible to the two revenue sports. This will in essence give Alabama their own "billionaire". Alabama's athletic department makes about 40 million more per year than Auburn. If they can just be clever enough to fully leverage that, they'll be better off for it.

I think Nico Brown is interesting, he looks like a real sure handed guy.

As far as Fields, glad Alabama landed him. He's one of those high 3 stars we might have scoffed at in the past, but he's been in college two years, so developmentally he should have progressed some. With 5 transfer OL obviously all won't start, but they needed bodies and that's been addressed fortunately.
My concern is his weight. Is he going to have weight issues like Proctor? Im glad we got him but good lord hes big.
I kind of like that they're not all in on one body type though. I have no idea what the starting line will look like, who will coach them, what the nutrition plans will be, etc... but at least they have some diversity in terms of what their options are.

The next thing I want to see is staff changes, specifically on the OL. If none are made, DeBoer is banking his job on keeping the same OL staff and our OL getting better. Big risk in my opinion.
Progress hasnt happened in two years. If not now, when. I think kap has had long enough.
