Accept N.I.T. bid or not?

Accept NIT bid or not?

Barring a miracle we will be invited to the N.I.T. but do you think we should accept or decline. As disapointing as this season has been I have mixed emotions about it. I see no real gain from it except to get the younger guys some more experience. Would it help?

If we could be garaunteed an opening round home game at least I think it might. We would have the advantage at home against whoever and it would also improve the chances of not being one and done in the tourney. A one and done in the NIT would be worthless in my opinion but if accepting a NIT bid we could get 2 or more extra games out of it I think that would be good for the younger guys.

Steele's season is done unless he could play in the SEC tourney. I don't see any other real advantage otherwise. So let the debate begin.

I think you are underestimating how important any tournament type experience is for players.

And what would it say to recruits that Bama just folded because they were disappointed in their season? No one would ever want to play here.

If they get ousted early in the SEC tourney, they may not even get the invitation. But if they do, then yes, let the guys finish the year by going as far as they can go. I don't think it would be right to not accept a bid.
Also, I think we fans have shown that we are behind the team 100%, but some of the player's performance on the court has been absolutely horrible. That reflects poorly on CMG and his staff. When the tourneys are over and the Tide has wrapped up their season, it'll be time for more coach searches in T-town.

Exactly. It never ceases to amaze me of the "defeatist" attitude of some: "If we can't win it all then we should quit!"

I never heard during the "lean years" that CWS should have been fired because he couldn't get us past the "Sweet 16" or because CCMN couldn't beat Kentucky consistently! Honestly we sound like a bunch of "Whiners"! Stop complaining and cheer for the team!

We are a lock for the NIT, assuming we don't make a run to SEC tourney finals and make the NCAAs. If you are in a major confernece, all you need is a winning overall record to make it. In fact, there is a really good chance that the entire SEC West will go to the NIT, including last place LSU.

Exactly Lance, you can't turn down an invitation to play in the NIT. This team needs all the practice and experience it can get. Didn't think about the fact that the entire SEC West could be playing in it.

It would be a huge ebarrasement for us to turn down the N.I.T. If we turn down the N.I.T. then we are giving up and saying that the team has completely unraveled. That would not say much about our character for us to just give up because the season didn't go as we had expected. I don't understand this thought process. It is just like when people were saying we shouldn't go to a bowl game last season. The reason we went to a bowl game and the reason we will accept a bid to the N.I.T. is simple, it's called pride.

I voted no for purely selfish reasons. It would be easier on my heart not to see us lose again. But I'm aware that it would be rediculous for the school to turn down an invite.

that's a stupid question why would they not accept an invitation. ??????????
It wouldn't be the first time we didn't accept an NIT bid. If memory serves me correct we turned one down in the David Hobbs era. Steele won't play due to injury, one more game won't help Jemareo's NBA stock, could get injured and cause it to plummet.

Most bubble teams generally do not play inspired ball due to the letdown of not making the dance and lose early. The extra gain of experience of another game or two may not be beneficial if the team is going to play the way they have been playing. Whats to learn from losing ugly again?

The benefit I would see would be if the coaches used the games to experiment some with players and schemes. But other than that theres not much time to learn anything new about ourselves when the whole team and coaches need to do some serious soul searching.

I vote to accept by the way but there is precedence for not accepting. We shall see.

I just hope that we don't have to play Auburn in the NIT. Two blowouts by them in one year is already more than I can take. Also, sad to say but with the contrast in playing styles, We would not stand much of a chance.
