Correct, and Alex Karras was suspended the same year for gambling. Not as famous as Hornung, but he was an all-pro tackle for the Lions.
Webster's dad? I saw Webster in a steakhouse here in Atlanta and darn near peed myself in shock (or perhaps terror).

I'd add that there is some confusion here about standards of guilt, conviction and the like. The Titans don't have to wait for a criminal conviction, which requires guilt "beyond the shadow of a reasonable doubt," they just have to satify themselves that he is guilty of some offense requiring he be suspended. I'd also add that they can consider hearsay, excludible confessions, etc., which would never make it before a jury in a criminal trial. It is their money, after all...

From Bud Adams:

.........We are one team among 32 in a league that has collectively bargained with its players on a number of issues. One of those issues is discipline and the Commissioner has far greater discretion and power in matters of discipline than individual clubs. This level of corrective action is simply not available to the team, and we made the conscious decision to defer to the Commissioner’s action with respect to the League’s Conduct Policy. We also believe that any suspension by the Commissioner has ramifications to the player’s contract status and can be dealt with by the team in due course.

The Titans took some heat by not acting sooner, but they had a reason for waiting on the League to take action, as described in this excerpt.

from the sounds of it, they're going to go with what they've got in the secondary, including newly acquired Nick Harper. There are some good cover guys in the draft, but I'm not thinking they'll spend a high draft pick on one.
Thx for the clarification. I don't follow much of the NFL offseason except for the post draft stuff. Players change teams so much, I wonder why they buy houses instead of just renting.

It will be an up hill battle for this young man. He is far from broke, and has lots of time on his hands. He better set some goals and work to stay out of trouble. I think he will never play again.

Something I find to be interesting about the Pacman Jones/Chris Henry situation, both played at West Virginia under CRR.

I don't know if they ever got into any trouble at West Virginia, but it is hard to believe they got to the NFL and all of the sudden decided to go buck wild.

Our situation at Alabama could not have gone any better IMHO, we got the best coach out there. It makes me think had we not gotten CNS, that CRR is not who we needed as a head coach. I just don't think he would have done much for our "discipline issues."

Luckily the whole thing worked out great for Alabama Football.

That makes sense since he is suspended w/o pay. If not, the Titans are up s#$% creek without a paddle on that one. Who do they draft now? Think WR still or go DB?
My suggestion to the NFL would be to count Jones' salary towards the cap. That may make teams a little more weary of players with behavior issues.

He's just misunderstood.
He had a hard life growing up.
Everybody wants a piece of the Pacman.
He's just in the wrong place at the wrong time (X 10).
He's been exploited by people who supposedly love him.
He's too trusting of and loyal to his friends.
He's been an excellent role model to the kids.

Same story, different chapter.

Just heard Adam JOnes of the Titans -- I refuse to use his nickname -- has been suspended for a year. Hopefully, the up and coming young thugs or those who just have a penchant for talking to the police about various matters, will take note and try to act like young men who have their God-given talent and are able to live their football dream and play in the NFL
sounds good to me

What do Pacman and Henry have in common?

RICH RODRIGUEZ

Thank goodness we got Saban and good luck to Noel Devine not following in the footsteps of his predecessors.

It was pretty surprising, even for AM radio. Not that I don't love Mexican Polka, 'cause I do. It calms me down and is delicious when I have good food nearby for while shaking my thuchas. Everyone needs a good cantina. *snort* :p

From what I've heard about him over the past couple of years, he hangs around with the wrong crowd. As my dad used to tell me when I was younger," You hang around s#!t long enough, you'll start to smell like s#!t".

In Rodriguez' defense, it's a bit difficult to recruit blue chippers to Morgantown ... so he ends up taking a chance on talented kids that have some character risks (Pacman, Chris Henry, Lazear, Devine).

Pacman, aside from a serious altercation as a freshman, pretty much stayed out of trouble during his WVU years.

Henry, on the other hand, stayed in RR's doghouse ... and spent a lot of time on the bench as a consequence ... even when his absence may have cost a victory or two.

I think we're all happy to have Saban instead of RR ... but RR runs a pretty tight ship with a team-first environment ... and kids like Slaton and White are fine role models.

First off, I like Pacman Jones and really want him to succeed in the NFL. I especially want him to keep bringing back punts for the Titans. However, if you want to know if Pacman will change, here's a quote from his Mom to the AP: "I just pray that this can be changed. This is not fair for him. It's just not fair."

Let's be honest here. As long as the people close to him don't make him responsible for his actions, he won't be. It is hard to be accountable when even your parents are saying that it's not your fault. At some point, a person has to stop blaming others for his failures and set about correcting the underlying behaviors that are causing those failures.

Hey Pacman, here's some advice. Lose the morons from the old 'hood. Start attending church for some perspective. See a good shrink. Take some responsibility for your actions. Ditch the notion of "street cred". Rise above all of the crap. Stop blaming everyone but yourself for stupidity. Grow up.

Otherwise, have fun in jail, or, worse yet, get yourself killed.
