Another upside for me Kiffen should mature with age,He will be another coach to add to the family at a young age who could one day come back to be our Head Coach even tho he is W coast guy. If your a coach looking for a job and you had to choose between Vandy, Minnesota, and Alabama where you know the backing you have. What Ring would you throw your hat in,never close a door all people change at different points in there lives. Look at your own.

The players love his attitude and he's a good OC. I'm ALL in for CNS making a change. We need the uptempo and crazy play calls like les miles.

Either way,he and his wife will make a splash in t town

The hatred on rocky top reaches a new high.

I recall Coach Paul Bryant actually wearing a helmet when we played Georgia or Georgia Tech many years ago. Lane may need one in Knoxville when we play them.
I think it is funny that people think they will care. They are probably more happy than anyone that he is no longer there. They will boo him, sure, but they will probably laugh even harder at him and us.
I'm sorry, I still hate the dude.
Yeah, he's still a tool. Roll Tide!

I didn't like Nick Saban one bit before he was head coach at Alabama, that's for sure.
I didn't like him because he whipped our tails a few times, but I certainly respected him and admired how he outworked people and did things the right way. I can't say anything positive about Kiffy-poo, so I will refrain from saying anything further. Roll Tide!

They will boo for sure if he is not in the Press Box,But again they hurt cause they seen the recruits he got for them and the turn around that was happening leave.

My point exactly its all buisness,Its not the day of Bryant be true to your school.

I see the multi qoute now.

Possible the Major?
Who would TideFans rather see Coach Saban hire as OC this year:

a. Major Applewhite (after all he was available also)
b. Lane Kiffin (we didn't, i.e. some of us, like him when he was at Tenercee and at USCw, BUT we just may learn to like him at Bama.

Everyone points to his stint as OC for the '04 Trojans. My question is, what has he done since?

I know HC is a different animal than OC, but was he calling the plays at USC last year? Did the offense get better or worse after he was ousted?

Count me as someone who doesn't like Kiffin. However, he obviously has skills as an OC and he's a great salesman. He's sold himself to Oakland, UT, USC, and now Saban. That's pretty impressive.

He also only 38 years old. I'm 34 and can't imagine having the jobs he's had already. If he does well, I'll love him and if he doesn't... he can't drop much more in my eyes anyway. So good luck Coach Kiffen and welcome.

I agree 100% with ya Poke..This has the potential to either be one of the best hires ever in college football or it has the potential to become a complete disaster hires ever in college football..When we look at Coach Saban's track record when it comes hiring assistant coaches, I have no doubts this hiring will pan out for the good, really truly the only hire that didn't turn out well was Applewhite..
The hire has potential to be great or tragic. I'll hope for thes best as I recommend with all Saban hires.

I know a lot of non-Sec fans on another site I frequent are already taking bets that this Saban/Kiffin partnership will "not end well." I hope it works, if for no other reasons to see the level of meltdowns at no just Tennessee but other conferences.

I seriously doubt Lane could completely derail this train. Saban was disappointed with Nussmeier and we still only lost three games.

Next year looks like a rebuilding year anyway, as usual Alabama is losing players early to the NFL and all of that, but there are key losses at special teams, and some shakeup within the coaches and even Saban's approach.

The key though is that the QB situation is completely up in the air. If Kiffin is a failure (and I don't see why he would be), he'll have a short stint, kind of like Major, and Alabama did just fine the next year...

Was talking to a few UT friends(ok, I apologize, but living in Nashville I do have some) last night and they promised they would stoop to lows that LSU fans have never dreamed of. They swore he would not be able to make the walk from the buses without serious injury if he actually showed up. Oh it will be a spectacle, be assured of that. I LOVE IT!!!!

Many great OC's have struggled when they tried to be HC and call plays.

Interesting side note Mac and Nuss both coached under Pat Hill and Kiffin played for him and was on the staff for him as a GA.

No one on here knows Lane personally, you only comment on what has been said about him by the media and his actions that are somewhat public but not all the truth, as people were on the outside looking in. He has said somethings in the media that were immature, but no one really knows for sure the real Lane Kiffin. USC is a tough job and Tennessee was a disaster before he walked in the door. Oakland was Al Davis and he was crazy anyway, so who knows really about Lane Kiffin.

Lane has had a bad reputation on the outside with his personality, but I am sure Coach Saban has talked to several people regarding Lane, even though he has known Lane for awhile, I am sure he talked to Pete Carroll and Pat Hill to get even more info regarding Lane....and I bet they both gave him a thumbs up. Coach knows all the past talk about Lane, so I am pretty danged sure Coach did his due diligence in finding out more about Lane than we know on the outside looking in. And I am pretty danged sure knowing Coach's personality, he told Lane up front his expectations and how he expects himself to carry himself both as an OC and as a member of the Bama family. We dont know anything other than what is the outside perception.

Heck I dont blame him at all walking out on Tennursee for USC.....did he handle it wrong, yes, but it was Tennursee, so in my eyes he didnt, TN got what they deserved. Oakland, who knows with All Davis---they are still a mess. With USC, Lane was not Hayden's hire and didnt want him from the beginning and was a dead man walking. Lane's mouth has gotten him in trouble most of the time, not his coaching.....and well chances are he will only be heard twice a year at Bama. Preseason and before the bowl game. I am willing to bet he will tow the company line at those 2 interviews....if not, he wont last long. But the guy can coach and recruit, let's hope that is the Lane that Coach gets and not the immature mouthy kid we know in the media.

I agree Poke, great or tragic. My personal opinion is one of indifference, just hope CNS can make this work. I find it amusing at all the posters who are researching statistics to now justify hiring Kiffin when less than 6 months ago these same posters were calling him every name in the book and belittling him at any opportunity. Strange.
