Fans:

I know we recruited this kid as a defensive player but he may be the best running back
prospect in the South.
I was both surprised and shocked when I saw this video.
6'2 210 4.45 speed.
He reminds me of Adrian Peterson.
I'll be surprised if CNS doesn't give this kid a good look at tailback.
Go to scout.com...click Football recruiting, click on "Team Rankings", then Alabama, Then "Mark Barron".
There's a vid link of him as running back on his page in a game against Williamson. Even if you're not a subscriber you can download the vid by clicking on the "Don't see video?...Click here to download" link.
I promise you you'll be amazed.
I simply went......"Woww"

Re: incoming recruit Mark Barron

Barron is not a natural RB IMHO which is why he wasn't recruited to play the position and why it's highly unlikely he'll play there once he arrives on campus. He has All-American potential at either safety or linebacker IMO and that's where we need him the most in the coming years. Besides we got two or three guys in this class coming in that should have a very bright future at the RB position.

he'll make a nice linebacker with about 15-20lbs and that ought to be easy to do with s&c

I agree on all points.

Well said.

Barron is a beast at RB, but take a look at Mark Ingram's highlight film... Ingram will be a force to be reckon with... In this class a lot of the emphasis seems to be on Julio, Star, Barron, Hightower, and B.J....

But honestly, I think I was just as excited when Ingram gave the nod, I was really hoping he would choose to Roll with the Tide... the rest was just icing on the cake

Mark Barron is just a football player........period. He'll stand out regardless of where you put him. He has intangibles that can't be coached.

The way you feel about Ingram (and Im excited about him too, he has basically the whole package as a RB and is a smart guy) I feel about Chris Jordan. I think he can be a feature back. He's not shifty, but he has 4.4 speed, power, size, vision, patience, and can hit corners or run through the tackles. With his size, I can see him becoming a good blocker too. And while he's not shifty, he is still quick and instinctive. As in he'll make the quick jump over a fallen player and keep it going quickly. He's got the ability to be a good linebacker, but I'd be shocked if he didn't play RB here. With his size already, we could see him next year.

Man, I couldn't agree with you more. I can't wait to see Ingram on the field. But, I am as excited about MB as I am any of the incoming recruits. I think, with his speed and power, MB will likely play safety.

Re: incoming recruit Mark Barron

With CNS's emphasis on finding guys that are talented, from a pure athletic standpoint, it must be a nightmare to try & decide what position fits them best. I'm sure it's a problem many coaches would love to have, though!

Re: incoming recruit Mark Barron

it is so nice to have options such as, highly regarded athletes, rbs, that should be successful with the tide. it has been a long 5 years since we have seen a collection of more than one per position to bring the tide back to prominance. i am sure coach will place them where they are most needed. ingram and jordan are the kind of power, speed backs we need. i sure hope they prove out. i think the mark barron type player will more than likely be placed on the defense.

Speaking of running backs, I can't wait to see Matchett run over people also!
Matchett is indeed very good. Hell, everybody we signed is good...lol...
This will eventually go down as maybe the best overall recruiting class in history.
You can't find a merely average player no matter how hard you try.
Roll Tide!

Not that there is anything wrong with that, of course :)

Best ever class, who knows, maybe Saban will pull in a class where there is not anyone rated lower than a 4-star. This incoming freshman class will always be known as CNS' first Alabama class and look at all of the hype this class is getting. Aside from the O-linemen that we got coming in, I think just about everyone else has a good shot at some measurable playing time. Whether they actually get it remains to be seen obviously.

Mark Barron Dominates State Track Championships

On this past Friday and Saturday, the AHSAA held the annual state track championships in Gulf Shores.

Mark Barron, the Tide's five star signee, dominated all of his events. He entered four separate events -- shot put, discus throw, long jump, and triple jump -- and won all four of them, most of them by significant margins. At the very least, he certainly did nothing to disprove the notion by many recruiting "experts" that he is freakishly athletic.
