It is what it is.

Alabama is not a top school in basketball, but it has potential to be a quality program.

I hope CNO is able to get the program back on good footing and that all the fans support him in that effort instead of crying over what isn't.

The guy is in his 4th day on the job and has already gotten a commitment from a solid big man and gotten a valuable player to return from the transfer portal. I hope he can get Kira to stay if Kira is willing to put in the effort. If he can do that he should have a good core coming back. In any case he's off to a good start.
It’s the fourth day of a complete rebuild. While i know his career accomplishments might not warrant total control over basketball operations, I hope he is given that control. I seriously believe the basketball program needs what Saban brought to the football program: one focused and determined boss with a focus and determined vision for success.

Were you even around when Bama was great under Wimp? SEC Championships and Sweet 16 appearances just about every other year? Damn near made it to The Elite 8 if that basket would have fallen against UNLV. It’s been way to long and I’m hungry for that success again. And I’m telling you, this Oats guy isn’t going to cut it.
Dude, you have no clue whether Oats is gonna cut it or not. And if you are all for hiring someone like Pitino then...………..

Why don't you just sit back and let him work and let's see if he raises the standard of Alabama basketball.
And yeah, I was around for CM Newton and Sanderson. I, too, want to see Bama bball prosper but not at the expense of the possible firestorm around hiring someone like Pitino. The NZAA loves to look our way as it is. We don't need to give them any reason to look harder.

I'll say this one last thing. If the big money guys were as interested in basketball as football, Coleman would have been replaced long ago. They're not and there's no point in coming on here and railing about the fact that the money's not there. Second, millions will not be siphoned from football to basketball. See reason one above. So, Coleman will be remodeled. Again. Eventually...
May be Auburn going to the Final Four becomes the best thing for the Alabama basketball program.

After Alabama spent 24 million on a Coleman renovation, Auburn committed to building a 86 million dollar arena. While Alabama was seemingly content with Anthony Grant's 5th and losing season, Auburn went out and got Bruce Pearl. Auburn has less resources, they have less fans, but they still did more. I'm not that into the Auburn rivalry but may be in this context it will help get some people focused.

To reiterate though, for what little good it is Byrne and Oats have my support and I wish them the best.

So you were around during the Dubose Fax campaign.......How did the email campaign workout? :)

I think Oats will be just fine.

BTW - Tourquoise is for "semi-sarcastic"! ;)

I agree 100 percent. As long as we hold onto Coleman, that sends a signal to me that we are not taking basketball seriously. Just like in football, basketball recruits look at facilities and factor that into their decision. That being said, I WANT Coach Oats to be successful—but until the facilities dynamic changes then I think he or whoever holds the title of HC here operates at a huge disadvantage, even in just the sec.

Finally able to chime in. This hire caught me totally off guard, but sounds like I'm not alone on that.

After reading about CNO, I like what I see.

I love his offensive philosophy which begins with great defense and hustle that will translate into quick and sometimes cheap points. I really don't understand why CAJ didn't try this type of play more. We had the athletes to run. But we didn't have shooters or strong inside game to run a half-court offense.

What I like most is he encourages shooters to shoot. He should be able to sale his philosophy to shooters. I like his already won John Petty back. Petty needs to get his confidence back in his 3 point shot and I'm going to bet CNO can do that. Go get two or three other shooters and then get them to play hard like a team and the results will come.

I know only time will tell, but I feel pretty confident that in 2 or 3 years the program will be on much stronger ground that the last year.

Welcome CNO!

I love all things OSU just as you guys love all things Alabama. But if I'm being honest, I would rather our BB team never make another tournament than have the AD siphon money from the football program to help them get there. For me, in sports, there is only football. Everything else is just a distraction to pass time until football is back.
