CNS is generally accepted now by pretty much everyone as the GOAT. He also appears to be very secure in his own skin as evidenced by his employing those with acknowledged expertise in a " consulting " role, recent examples being Joe Pendry and Pete Jenkins. With that in mind, I wonder if he confers with others prior to position coaches and maybe coordinator hires, even though the final decision is obviously his?

In Marrone’s case, I don’t think that was even an issue.
I think there is a difference between "the four-letter sports network is reporting X is hired," and "The University announces Y has moved on and X hired."
I suspect that Coach Saban either knew Marrone was leaving (or directed him to find a job somewhere else), and had been looking for his replacement for some time. When the four-letter sports network makes the announcement is irrelevant to that process.

Worried about the Wolford hire. Here in Columbia he was widely seen as among the worst coaches on the Muschamp staff (and that's saying a lot), and his OLs were pretty rotten. Local talking heads routinely criticized the poor technique & poor effort. He's a career journeyman who never stays anywhere very long & who has not risen in the ranks of coaching past OL coach. I hope he proves me wrong, but on paper this hire is a real head-scratcher. As a USC fan we could not wait to see him off the staff. USC's OL was widely considered its poorest performing unit under Muschamp, at least here locally.

Not as concerned with TRob hire. USC's DBs were one of the few bright spots under Muschamp, plus he supposedly is good on recruiting trail.

Yet he gets props for his work at Kentucky

Only 1 season vs an entire career, and to be honest KY played a poor schedule & struggled offensively vs better defenses (scored 28 vs UTChatt, 16 vs USC, 20 vs UF, 13 vs UGA, 17 vs MSU, 20 vs Iowa). They loaded up rushing & scoring on lesser teams, but only averaged 117 yds rushing vs these 6 teams (yes, UTChatt held them to 102 yds). Missouri, LSU & Louisville their best offensive games, all 300+ yds rushing, but all 3 suspect defensive teams.

Not saying KY was a bad offensive team, just a bit overrated when SOS factored in. Again, I hope I'm wrong here, but on paper this is a real head-scratcher.

Well, we shall see……. As another poster stated, Pendry likes him a lot…….. maybe it was a talent issue

I’m just trying to digest the “negative” of this stat tweet. At their worst this Kentucky line averaged high enough yards before contact on 3 out of 4 run plays to place them in the top 2 of the SEC in that category. 26% of their plays had contact in the backfield (essentially bringing the average down), but the other 74% of the plays averaged enough positive yards before contact to not only erase the negative, but push them into the top two of the conference. Is this even a negative? I guess maybe I’d like to know what the average yards before contact is.
This could also be attributed to playcalling also. It can’t be any worse than our line last year.

Imagine what an offensive line would look like if all you ever did was run the ball and rarely passed. Defenses would start crowding the line of scrimmage and there would be lots of tackles for loss. Muschamp was never known for high powered offenses so maybe it just wasn't a good match. I'm willing to give him a chance. I mean Kentucky with their talent allowed 25 sacks last year to our 41 sacks given up. Can't be worse.
