Is there a statute of limitations in cases like this?
Alfy was dangerously close to already having begun classes.

It is Clearinghouse issues. Some courses were initially accepted and then rejected...
How in the world do they justify something like this? This is greatly inconveniencing Alfy...

Hopefully he can just make it up and simply greyshirt. Potential is really high on this kid.

The Clearinghouse is in charge of checking curriculum to make sure you've had everything you're supposed to have. Lorenzo Washington, for instance, had somewhere around a 3.0 GPA coming out of high school but didn't have one of the required core classes he needed. He ended up in prep school. That same thing has happened to other players at other schools.

I would be surprised at this point if he is able to remain at UA. It's a big step to go ahead and bring Jones in and, more tellingly, to allow UA-friendly outlets (Tuscaloosa News, TiderInsider) to report on it. Tells me it's a foregone conclusion.
I hate it for Alfy. I guess we can't lay all the blame on the clearinghouse, as the University also has some responsibility in checking a students academic curriculum. Sad part is if it were caught earlier he may have made it up in summer school.

So......Prep school would probably be the best route?

Classes started yesterday. Additionally, the last day to change schedule/add/drop classes is August 25th. So he basically has 6 days to get all of this sorted out. Not good.

Harold James, Arkansas Mr. Football, was the first name that popped into my head too.

Well I thought we were boycotting Hargrave after the Bobbie Massie thing. Any other prep schools would work though.

Good heavens this bites. I get so mad at all these distractions just before football season. Hoping it gets worked out appropriately and quickly.

According to his HS coach, correspondence courses which had been allowed for credit in the past were suddenly disallowed. Hate to say it, but if the staff had any hope, Jones wouldn't have had his gray shirt removed. He can attend JUCO, redshirt one year and still have three years left of eligibility...

Bites horribly. Well, at least we can afford the attrition at Jack....

Sadly, no. Harold James was into the spring semester of his freshman year, before the NCAA retroactively disqualified him.

When did they start disallowing these courses? If he was cleared, then that should be end of story.

I know that the Clearinghouse just passed it down to us (AHSAA) that they no longer accept 'credit-recovery' classes that the state has accepted, and still accepts towards a players eligibility.

It also only affects athletes at the D1 level.

Not really knowing the issues with the classes or anything they should grandfather these players in that they already cleared. Just another joke involving the NCAA and their rules.

I feel for Alfy Hill. He is in summer school makes good grades then this. We still have Marcel in limbo as well. Well Alfy join other mysteries...will Kendall Kelly ever see the field at 'Bama just how sick can heat related be...Is Morgan Ogilvie that bad a QB, looked good in HS, is he just practicing or if we lost Gmac and AJ would he be able to play or would we have to pull a RS off Sims...with Alfy iffy does that open the door for Adrian Hubbard...will Clowney or Dickson see the opening and pull the trigger.

Pitiful, just pitiful. I feel sorry for the kid.

HSV (or someone else who knows) if he goes JUCO, does he have to stay there two years before he can come back? I thought that was why many of the students go the prep route? Of course, if he's already graduated from high school, prep might not be an option. Either way, it is outrageous and once again shows that despite what they say all the time the nzaa is not concerened about student athletes or interested in justice, truth or doing the right thing; they are just obsessed with their own rules and self-importance.

Still can't fathom why the major colleges continue to put up with it. Time to leave.

Serious question; does Alfy have any "legal" issues against the nzaa in this case?? What I mean is, can the nzaa legally "unqualify" him like they have??
