I heard it mentioned on I think ESPN (take it for what it's worth) that a player could not declare for the draft early if they had been deemed ineligible by the NCAA. Anyone know anything about this?

For example, if the NCAA deemed Anrdre ineligible for 3 games would he be ineligible for the draft but eligible to return for his Senior year. I'm not saying this is a possibilty, I'm curious as to the rules.

According to the Ncaa rules not only Andre but any member of his family or represenative can rec any benefits and become ineligible when they do.

Yes, but it does not mean that he can't come back. Again, see Cecil's column. There is plenty of precedent for it.

So maybe it is best to not rush to judgment and determine someone's legacy without waiting for all of the facts to come out? What a novel concept.

And when a news article says that the investigation is focused on a family member, maybe that really is the case? Interesting.
Ah yes...move along, nothing to see here.

I wouldn't let anyone look at my cell phone records, read my mail, read my email or look at my computer history without a court order not because I have anything to hide but because that's my personal stuff. My wife isn't allowed in my billfold and I stay out of her purses too.

Even if you agreed to it beforehand?

WJOX is saying he is still with the DeBartolo Group.
Well, its probably an honest mistake. Now we know at least we're dealing with straight up, honest, reputable people.

Edward John DeBartolo Jr.

DeBartolo was involved in the corruption case of former Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards. He pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to report a felony, and received a $1 million fine and a year's probation in return for his testimony against Edwards. Edwards was on trial for extortion and other charges, among which were the $400,000 he demanded from DeBartolo to gain a river boat casino license. DeBartolo never received the license, was also fined by the NFL, and barred from active control of the 49ers for one year.

That legal battle led to another, and as part of a settlement, DeBartolo gave up control of the 49ers in 2000, ceding control of the team to his sister Marie Denise DeBartolo York. York had previously been the president of the DeBartolo family-owned Pittsburgh Penguins, In 1991 he arranged to sell the NHL franchise to assist the DeBartolo Corporation in the aftermath of the real estate collapse of 1987. The many shopping malls were sold to Simon Property Group in 1996, which operated for a few years as Simon DeBartolo Group.

Even if you were a member of the football team, wrongly accused of having contact with an agent, and were at great risk of being ineligible? Only the guilty (or those wishing not to play football) would refuse.

Just read on BOL that a member of Smith's family was acting in his behalf and in contact with 2 agents. When the family member decided not to use one of the agents, said agent leaked info.

So we still don't know the whole story, and probably won't for a while. I had heard yesterday the part about AS withholding his cell phone/records whatever, which IMO, couldn't have helped his defense any.
I understand the whole privacy thing but If you look at it from CNS & The University's standpoint, they cannot take the chance of putting the football program in jeopardy over this, especially not knowing how far back this all went. If this all began back during the season, it changes the whole scope of things. So a request for phone records seems feasible to me to clear things up a little quicker.

I am glad that NCAA not going to be in it....

A quote from a crimson player.

Quote
"We don’t see it as a distraction at all, we just look at it like an injury,” said Johnson. “When one player goes down, another player steps in. It’s going to be a task for us and we’re looking forward to it.”

One good thing that seems to have come out of this is that Saban seems to have put the ball in Andre's court regarding whether or not he will return next year. It sounds like Andre would be allowed to return to the team if he chose to do so, and no one knows what Andre is going to do but Andre.
