Congratulations to Antoine!

He is one of my all-time favorites. I wish all of our basketball players hustled and played with as much heart and determination as Antoine did.

While it will be announced Sunday, Gottfried confirmed to Birmingham News columnist Kevin Scarbinsky today that Pettway is return.ing to his alma mater as a full-time assistant coach.

Should bring an intensity surge, if nothing else. I would imagine he'll be great on the recruiting trail as well.

You mean our basketball program took a step in the right direction?!

All kidding aside, congrats Antoine and I hope you can rub off on our players.

Sidenote: I still remember being in Fayetteville when we were down by 18 (I believe that's the number) at the half and then came back to win it in OT. It was Antoine that hit a 3 at the end of regulation.

Why on Earth would you suggest that? Just because it was done over the weekend before the Tide Pride renewals went out????

Pathetic Head Coaching Strategy

While I respect Pettway as a player and someone who puts forth tremendous effort in everything he does, put me on the list of those who thinks this was a pathetic move on CMG's part in hiring Pettway as a full-time assistant and not in the best interest of Pettway's development as a coach.

I have no personal knowledge of Pettway's coaching acumen but I would think given he is only in his 3-4 year of coaching he is not in a position to be nothing more than a yes man for CMG. To be anything else at that age in your career would be career suicide.

Furthermore, I think this speaks to how impotent CMG is now in putting together a quality staff and the administration is doing nothing but letting him hang himself with these dubious personnel moves.

From my standpoint, it seems that CMG's strategy for keeping his job is surrounding, or hiding, if you will, behind very popular present and former Bama players, see Steele and now Pettway a while back it was TR Dunn and Rah Rah. Maybe next it will be Erwin Dudley or Roy Rogers or maybe we can get the movie star Jim Farmer to come back to help him coach. If he gets enough of these personalities involved he seems to be playing the game that "they dont have the guts to fire me" and subsequently all these legacy hires lose their jobs at the same time - that would hurt recruiting and be poor media coverage.

I think it is safe to say once the AD finally gets tired of dealing with this drama that CMG will likely find himself out of coaching at the D1 level or relegated to the career assistant role like Hobbs (however I doubt he could stand it because I dont think he has the work ethic to make as a career assistant).

I am absolutely done with Bama basketball until he is out of there!

Don't agree. I think that any "new" knowledge that a young coach can gain is good knowledge. Most coaches develop their own philosophies and you have to in order to survive and improve. There is more than "X's and O's" to coaching and especially at this level.

So that is "new" Master Plan! I surprised that many would think that he is that intelligent! (Sarcasm)

One less thread to lock! Thanks for making our job easier! :)

You'll be greatly missed. Please stick to your guns. I wouldn't want you to have to go back on your word if the team finds success this season. You've gotta stand for something

I dont know why I am being singled out for my comments now when these were similar comments being the norm at the end of the season.

Lock the thread if you want, but I have not attacked the character of CMG or anyone associated with the AD. Just merely making a statement about my perception of the assistant coaching hires of late and the endless run of excuses for lack of success.

JD I hit the wrong button in "replying" to your post so forgive me for the "edit". It wasn't intentional it is just very early here and it took a bit before I got it straight.

I know that I handed out a share of suspensions!

When you use terms like pathetic and impotent it really seams personal with no "basis" for your criticism on CAP (Even you said that you don't anything about his abilities as a coach.)

You could have said:

"I'm not to sure about the recent hire of CAP. If I were in CMG's position or the AD, then I would've tapped a more experienced Assistant to help aid the program in a time of adversity which I feel that we are in currently."

As far as not supporting our team this year and until I guess we go to the Final Four, that is your choice. However, it does make you seem like a "Sunshine Patriot". When you post stuff like that, then you become a target for fans that are truly with the Tide through "Thick and Thin".

If anything, less fans at games and media support will show the players our lack of support for them on the court. So, those that think that they will "hurt CMG" because they want him fired will be disappointed to know that he is a good enough coach to get another good job, but our players won't get another year of eligibility or another chance to play with the University. The ones that will never go pro will look back on their years at Alabama as one of "non-support" from our fans and a bad time at the Capstone.

You simply can't support the troops without supporting leadership on the team. Negativity spreads like a wildfire.
