Anyone else interested in seeing what David Cornwell can do?

Perfect world. Top schools are invited to the elite 11 camp and then choose.

We are going to be in a similar boat as RB if a Freshman Del Rio gets the nod. That has to make Bateman, a top 10, a little nervous about this future, especially with Cornwell and the best of them all imo, Ricky Town coming in 2015.

Unless Blake starts, it could be Del Rio handing the reigns to Town when he is a sophomore.

I am really looking forward to him. He's a big guy and can move. Nothing but good times ahead in out QB depth.

There's gonna have to be some attrition at QB. I just don't see four or five highly recruited guys riding the bench for three or four years.

Is there anyone that is a Bama fan that will really answer no to this question?
If all works out and we have Bateman, Cornwell and Town on the roster, it will be the highest rated batch of quarterbacks on a Bama team that I have every seen, 3 elite 11's.
I would like to see them all play.

For recruiting, it would be better if Blake started next year. Starting a freshman with the last name Del Rio is going to be on the minds of both Bateman and Cornwell imo, but let the best man win.

I too anticipate some attrition in the QB position before the start of next season. There is no doubt they all have the physical tools, but as we have seen since the arrival of CNS it takes a while to grasp the mental side of playing QB. Sims, Del Rio, Bateman, Morris, McLeod, and now Cornwell, not enough footballs to around. I can see at least two out of this group transferring especially with Town committed for next year.

Cornwell will take a redshirt his year. Although he's a head of schedule in his recovery, he's still recovering from an ACL injury and has no college experience.

In re attrition: I would expect at least the last guy in the battle between Bateman, Del Rio, Morris, and McLeod to transfer. Possibly the last two in the battle. That would leave the QB list to include Sims, Cornwell, and two or three of the others.

Doubt it unless he learns how to throw the ball down field. I still think Luke Del Rio will be the man next year.
I like Luke and he has definitely made an impression but I get the feeling coach will go with experience in Blake Sims. He is adequate in the passing game and absolutely devastating with the read option. Gmac led us to a natty champ based on great defense and a superior running game (though Gregg has superior talent between the ears). I see us getting back to that next year.

there is a lot of highly rated high school talent coming our way. like some have said, coach likes experience, rewards dedication from his players. blake sims has been there and provided a lot of effort to the cause. while do not see him as the qb to lead bama us to the playoffs, i think coach will start him depending on his performance in the spring, and august. blake is short, and will have to run outside of the pocket to pass, and that is just not what bama is equipped for unless the team makes a wholesale makeover. bama has not recruited exactly the type of qb blake is, ex cept maybe luke. even so there are a lot of tall, big arm recruits available and still coming. it will be interesting to see what develops and where goes.

Clearly the biggest question we've had in the spring since Saban arrived. Even in 2010 there was a near-certainty that McCarron would get the job (even though he split snaps the first game of the season).

Personally, I think Del Rio will make a real run at it. Our QB position requires less physical skill than mental. Saban rewards hard practicers and the son of a coach is going to have the mental toughness and the practice dedication to make quite the impression. The real challenge is going to be on us as fans. We should have a successful year next year but I think we're going to struggle to maintain the balance we've had the past few years. Regardless of who gets snaps it will be a nearly untested player who is far behind the development curve we're used to at Bama.

Can WE be patient enough to let our QB grow if we're winning games on the ground? What happens if we lose a game early? That's going to be a real test of us as a fan base. The future is clear - we've got more talent at QB than we've ever had - but it's going to take a bit more patience than many of us have.

I wouldn't be surprised if he goes down that route, but I have a feeling coach will go with a younger guy with more upside.
