As expected, Clowney picks USCe

it was a given on him. i only listed players that as of lately have said things about their recruitment. in my opinion we have had cyrus since last year when he took his first visit he enjoyed it more than his brother.

Just saw on Scout that Phillip Dukes has an OV set up for the 2nd week in January. If we make a good impression on him, we may be able to give Clowney a little more to think about. IMO.

well to help you guys feel a little better we will probably close this class with the following dickson hart hill mitchell and maybe a surprise in leon mackey that my friends puts us at 10 espnu 150 blue chips for the year.

not taking very many risks there rangerman, I actually feel better about us coming away with clowney and will be bold enough to say he picks bama.

per BOL sources, some Bama assistant coaches have said that Saban does not considered Clowney the most coveted prospect in this class.

some have said the JUCO Jessie Williams is the most important commit for the 2011 class. some think Clowney is 1A and Williams is 1B.

with the comment made by Clowney a few days ago (not preferring to play the 3-4), Williams is the central key to establishing our dominance in defense for the next few years.

TIFWIW

Agreed on Williams being one of the most, if not THE most important recruit we get. One has to wonder if he'll be one and done.

As for Clowney's statement about not preferring the 3-4, his quote was a bit wish-washy. He said that Bama is the only school recruiting him at JACK LB while everyone else is asking him to be a DE. He said that he prefers DE, but playing JACK wouldn't bother him. He also stated that he runs a similar JACK position in HS... meaning that he's primarily a DE, but drops into coverage on occasion. With his speed, he could start on the line, drop back in coverage and hang w/ a WR if need be. This is EXACTLY why he'd be such a great option at JACK. That said, he could stay where he's at OR gain a few pounds and be just as good as a pure pass rushing DE w/ his hand down.

Hence why everyone is drooling over him... there is good reason.

Dukes will most likely wind up at USCe with Clowney. JMO.

ok jam answer me this how do you see our class ending up and with who? give me two scenarios on RB because crowell is shaky at best. i want to know how we look for the rest of the guys on the board leave cyrus out i know about him.
you believe crowell is shaky at best. . I expect hart and crowell. Mitchell i feel real good about . Also to early to give a real shake down. We have alot more guys visiting and more names pop up as we get closer remember Mark Ingram wasn't recruited until January by bama.

If Saban is going to continue to run the 3-4 as opposed to the 4-3 he ran a LSU, Williams is indeed the most important part of this class. Chapman isn't big enough, Murphy has apparently moved due to not being effective. Ivory has the size (according to his listed ht/wt) but by all accounts he's not the world beater that is needed at the nose. Williams has the size, but with rare athleticism. If he lives up to the billing, he'll be better than Cody, who is quite possibly the best pure 3-4 nose tackle since Vince Worfolk. We sorely need to plug the middle of our line, the fact that Tenn had a 100 yd rusher is proof of that.

And BTW, if I was on the SC staff I would slow dance with spurrier just to get Clowney. This guy has Jullius Peppers writen all over him.

I wish we went to more of a 4-3 defense. I have images in my head that involve J. Williams and Q. Dial in the backfield, stopping the run 4 yards back in the backfield.

yes unless you can prove otherwise?

OK Jam. I have an important question for you. How did you get the laughing head to pop up? How are people supposed to know when I'm being sarcastic w/out a little winking face?

I have to disagree here. Not that Ivory is a "world beater", but earlier in the season I remember people talking about how CNS was really impressed with Ivory. I think he will be in the mix next season.

Nice write-up on SI.com
At 6-foot-6, 240 pounds, South Pointe High defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has been labeled as intimidating. The sheer magnitude of his presence forces double (and even triple) teams, and his enormous wingspan makes him a constant threat to swat down passes at the line of scrimmage. Perhaps he's more aptly described as unblockable. He also runs a blistering 4.48 40.

We essentially are a 4-3, or 4-2-5 when we roll the jack down. In that situation, Williams and Dial will basically be playing the 1 (NG) and 3 (DT) techniques.

I remember people saying during the ESPN show they heard CNS say Ivory just needs some maturing, that he's too raw right now.
