As expected, Clowney picks USCe

I don't know if you are specifically talking to me or just GC fans in general. I don't think I ever said USC had no worries and I was absolutely sure he was going to come back from Bama very impressed. My hope after the Bama trip was to let the aura of the trip wear off and get Ellis Johnson in to see him. Ellis only recruits 3-4 guys a year for us, tops, but he is our go-to guy in situations like this and looks like today was a success for him. I highly doubt the Clemson visit on the 28th happens, but if it does, its good news for you guys because that will be a 2day lecture on why he shouldn't go to USC. I don't believe that trip ever happens though. Convincing JC to come back to campus was a very neccessary step in his recruitment, following the visit to Bama. Also, it was long said by our insider on 247 site that he didn't think the FSU visit would ever fully materialize. He has been saying that for over a month.

No I was not talking about you, but others over there. Again even with all the stuff that was coming out after the visit I was skeptical on our chances but this shows me they are than I thought. Now I do believe he will end up on an UOV this weekend at USC but if he does not I think our chances improved.

Fair enough.

I will say, I was surprised Saban came in for the In-home so early when he did but Spurrier followed that up right after him which was a good move by us. I wasn't happy about him taking the OV so early to us though and having you guys be 2months after was always a concern.

My question to you though was JC said he was postponing his decision so he could take all his visits. Is there a chance this could be rescheduled and he canceled it to come in this weekend to USC since it is their big recruiting weekend or do you believe he will not take any more visits? Because if he is done taking visits than I doubt he waits past NSD to announce. Why would he? Heck if that is the case he might just commit to USC this weekend.

I'm not sure what he is going to do really. I know if I was in his position and knew I am either going to Bama or USC, that I would take my 3 remaining OV's to nice places just to get to see part of the world for free. I don't think the CU visit ever happens. FSU - Not sure, Again, if I was him - I would take the free visit there. LSU is another school that is casually thrown out there as a possibility and UF has been trying to get one as well. I really don't know how many of his remaining 3 visits he takes.

No offense Green but Ellis Johnson is the trump card of your recruiting? Seriously? I've met Ellis and talked to him at length. I find it hard to believe he's your "closer" so to speak. Maybe I'm reading you wrong. Like others I believe Clowney will end up at SC but certainly not because of Ellis (his coaching or recruiting). I can't even imagine Ellis vs. Kirby Smart in that situation.

Ellis Johnson is really good at what he does when trying to convince a kid to stay home and play for USC. He has been Clowney's main recruiter this whole process. Last year he had family issues going on and wasn't a big part of our recruiting, the year before that he was the reason Gilmore came to USC. He is only set up with a couple of guys a year but he does his job very well when it comes to keeping kids in state. He isn't our closer so to say, he just gets a few targets before the year and thats who he deals with, Clowney is the one this year.

I dont think that has anything to do with it. If anything its so he can have a huge party for both things at the same time. I just don't imagine it has anything to do with his mom, except maybe not having two gatherings so close together.

Yeah, you are right, but, USCe fans are on edge, And to quote the great Bugs Bunny 'aint I a little stlinker':PDT_jok::party::party::fripper:

Don't underestimate Ellis Johnson, not in South Carolina. As a native and former HS, coach there, he knows the state and the culture, plus coaching stints at CU, AND The Citadel. Probably his biggest asset in the JC case is his tenure in Tuscaloosa, He knows what the Alabama name, tradition could mean to a recruit. He knows what he is up against.

The part that kills me are the idiots that are allowed to post on threads. They got some guy over now saying that CNS and the staff lied to JC and did negative recruiting, but that CEJ cleared it all up. Those people need to get a life. They start BS like that so they can say that is why they lost the recruit or if they get him they can make it out to be a bigger deal than it really is if he chooses USC over UA. No offense to all USC fans because most seem to be civil but many are starting to act like Barn fans.

He can make visits after NSD correct? What about coaches visiting him? If he can visit, I say he comes down for one last unofficial. Of course, I'm sure all the top notch players that had signed would love to throw him a party when he got to Tuscaloosa as a meet-and-greet. :biggrin2:

That is what USC fans are hoping for this weekend. All their visitors have either commited to them or will. They are hoping to put the pressure on JC if he comes in.

Man that would be a big party. USCe already has 30 commitments for their 2011 class. I didn't know Houston Nutt was helping them manage their recruiting.

You know that the "numbers always work out"

If we get Clowney, we are looking at probably 35 total commits.

3 of those count back to 2010 and do not sign L.O.I.

We have 3-4-5 that are probably heading to prep school.

We also have the option of offering 1-2 kids to Grayshirt and they were made aware of that before they gave their verbal and were ok with it.

I'm just picking at USCe. Alabama is always under tremendous scrutiny for 'oversigning' players. Now we can officially eliminate sowcarlina from the list of institutions who spotlight the issue and try to bad mouth the Bama nation's process.

Almost everyone does it but with bama actually winning and competeing for National Championships everyone calls foul. The only schools that can really say anything are big ten. Also JC is going to look so good coming off the edge in the 3-4 defense.

I see what you did there.;) If they come to fruition or not, I love your posts.
