Asked to SIT DOWN!!!!

That makes me mad also.I work hard to buy my tickets every year and to have someone tell me when I can stand and when to sit ain't going to cut it.I am sure there were people in front of you standing as well and if you sat you would not be able to see.Dont feel like your the only one it happens all over the stadium.

From now on I am going to do my best to be in the student section, !!

You're right and he's right. There are times to stand and times to be seated. That was a time to stand. First offensive series. Other times to stand...important third downs both offensively and defensively. Times to sit? Well, when your team is up 21 or time-outs. :):):)

i have to disagree, you can't support your team with as much enthusiasm sitting down, just can't......ESPECIALLY when our defense is on the field waving their arms because they want you UP....if Simeon or Bino wants me UP, i am UP!!!!!! they don't just mean get louder they want you on your feet screaming! that is showing way more enthusiasm than just sitting there yelling!
No disrespect intended, but have you ever been to Six Flags and listened to folks sitting on a roller coaster? What's true for you might be different for someone else. Also, when players I coached waved their arms, it wasn't to get people to stand... it was to get people to increase the crowd noise. Think it's a bit presumpsous to imply that everytime our guys raise their arms, they want us to stand (can't quite take a straw poll on that one though).

Regardless, though, it's your ticket and your space... use it as you wish. Just remember, however, that no everyone agrees with the way you choose to "be a fan"... and respect their views as well. As someone told me as a young boy, you can't ever get respect for your views if you don't respect those of others.

Bamagrl, you would love my seats, I stand the whole game along with the 30 others on my row. Luckily there is no one behind us but the cool gentle wind on the fifty yard line. Most people would complain about having the last row in the upper deck, but its nice. The sun never reaches you on a CBS game and is gone by kickoff on a 6:00 game. I just wish I woulnt have paid for those seat cushions, we flip them over and stand the whole game!

Happens at every event. I suppose there were "the sitters" when Christians were fighting the lions.

I was at 2 concerts a few years ago; rowdy but peaceful at the Skynyrd concert, but at the Elton John (I accompanied the wife) a fight broke out between a lady and a man because the lady wouldn't sit down. There was lots of slapping going on, from both.

Haha. I can see it. Was he gay? I mean, no offense to Elton John, he has come out publicly that he is gay, and a guy gets into a slap fight with a woman. Did they woman win?

i bet if you asked the players what they mean when they are jumping up and down raising their arms, most would say they want you up and screaming.

did ANYONE watch monday night football last night?? Those jacksonville fans were UP the whole game and they were SO LOUD when the jags were on defense!! and that's the nfl! they are suppose to be jaded because of all the money....it should be louder at our college games than at any nfl game!!!

i wish i could get season tickets on the last row in the lower bowl

and it's a little different on a roller coaster when you're having the screams pulled out of you by fear....bet people are louder on those stand up roller coasters ;)

i do sit down for time outs :)

never dreamed this thread would turn into this :) i'll just say i don't think i should have to sit down if i don't want to...and from now on i will do my best to sit in the student section where it won't be a problem. and maybe someday the rest of the buttploppers that take up more than half the the stadium will find some energy-or at least respect those of us that have some.

Again, I look for something called "proof" of what you're saying. Assuming, guessing, or speculating does little to prove this point to me. As I mentioned yesterday, respect... you want it? Make sure to give it... something that I find lacking thus far in your posts.

OK...let's imagine Bino or Simeon or any other player sitting down for a beer or other beverage with us. Let's say we ask them, "Hey, [INSERT TIDE FB PLAYER NAME HERE], what REALLY get's y'all fired up, when we all STAND UP and CHEER to the loudest, or when we all SIT DOWN and CHEER to the loudest? Why? Well, we've got folks on TF who really think sitting down and cheering when y'all need 'em is just "OK""

OK...of course it's hypothetical, but I think we all know what the real answer would be/is!!!

As a former football and basketball player, when we waved our hands up, we wanted the crowd to get up and get loud. You're louder when you're standing, and a packed house of fans standing, jumping, waving, and screaming can be quite intimidating.

The technical version is that your diaphragm is pushed up while you are sitting and not able to create as much volume as while you are standing. Simple anatomy... you can't scream as loud sitting down as standing up.

My humble opinion... if you have a health condition or other valid reason to have to sit or not be able to stand for extended periods of time, then the people and staff around you will be glad to accomodate. If you are merely too lazy to stand or think it's improper to stand and cheer at a ballgame then you to just shove it. I want to stand and cheer my team and if both your legs work then you can stand and cheer as well. Having said that, being wary of spilling a drink on someone or hitting them with a shaker is common courtesy, and anyone who does that over the age of seven is just rude. If you can't cheer and drink without maintaining control of your limbs and other objects then you have another problem.

Bottom line? When the players wave their hands in the air they want you to get up, get loud, and get crazy. This "stand up only on third down in the fourth quarter" stuff is just stupid. The crowd, especially a crowd the size of BDS, should be a factor in every home game. Every fan should be on their feet, waving their hands or their shakers, screaming as loud as they can on every short yardage play, every third down play, every time the other team tries to audible, every time the ball is in the redzone, and any time the team has or needs momentum. So more or less the whole game. If you want to sit down and watch the game in peace, what the heck are you doing at the stadium???

Last I'll say on the subject... it's a debate that could go on for eternity. There are many different ways to be a fan... some prefer to be more calm than others and others simply don't have the energy to expend because of age and health problems. You want to stand and scream... that's OK with me... you want to sit and scream... it's all right with me. What the players want more than anything else is noise... even more than the standing. But hey, that's just my opinion... and you're entitled to yours as well.

Around this time each year, there's always one or two threads that focus on issues dealing with "what does it mean to be a fan of Alabama." Just like you can't easily define "a good football players", you can't just say that someone is or is not a good fan based on what you believe. We all think we have a corner on the market of being right... that's why we do what we do. However, when it comes to being a fan... a fan at home or at the game... give a little leeway on your definition... and realize that just because you're in a majority doesn't automatically give you the right to disrespect the opinions of others.

Frankly, I would much rather sit during a game than stand. Standing hurts my feet which makes me tired which, when crunchtime comes in the 4th qtr means I'm tired and irritable and that means i can't yell with peak performance to help the team.

I'm sure this is the case with most fans who also like to sit. :)

Standing doesn't mean you're any more of a fan and sitting doesn't mean you're any less. Some of us just prefer to sit and yell rather than stand and yell.

i'm sorry, didn't realize i was in a courtroom. i don't feel the need to prove the point to you...there is no doubt in my mind that when they wave their arms and jump up and down, they want us up! so i am up...... btw, were you in section JJ?

As a former football and basketball player, when we waved our hands up, we wanted the crowd to get up and get loud
Thank you!!

ok, do i wish everyone would stand up more - YES, and i don't even necessarily mean the whole game. But i DO realize that is your right if you want to sit. but DON'T ask me to sit, i would of never started this about sitting and standing if the man behind me with his little chart that never moved had not of told us to sit down. and spilling a drink has nothing to do with it....i'm not going to sit down because someone spilled a drink on you at one point (besides i don't think i'm going to spill a drink on the man behind me that asked me to sit down, that would be kind of hard).

again, did anyone see that jacksonville game last night??? they were all standing & it was very very loud.
