I didn't realize this guy was from Greenville. St. Joe hasn't exactly been a football powerhouse as of late, and I haven't heard of anything lately that says anything has changed. However, they did have luck with one Greenville native.....the band director himself, Quenton Groves!!!!!!!!!!
"Perkins, a 5-8, 180 pound running back, rushed for 1,877 yards and 29 touchdowns as a junior for the Class 1A Fighting Irish.

:pDT_hah: “I have liked Auburn since I was real small," Perkins said."

Re: Auburn picks up THREE commitments/ Auburn's FIFTH commitment in 48 Hours (Merged)

What I don't get is Auburn fans bragging about having 16 recruits already while we have 7. For starters, quantity is not equal to quality. If you compare the pieces we have, they are better than all the guys they have at that position. Better linemen, a four-star QB, and one of the top backs in the nation. We may have only 7...but the quality of the players is much higher.

Second, I've said it before, but I'm tired of the old Auburn stand-by "well our coach evaluates players in camps." It is an insinuation that Saban is recruiting out of a magazine or website when that couldn't be further from the truth. It's not like we had a flurry of commits over a 3-4 week period on and around our camps just like Auburn has had over the last 3-4 days...no, never. In fact, I think every offer except McCarron and Fluker were extended after an on-camp evaluation period.

Third, our class simply is not going to be big enough for us to match Auburn in terms of quantity. They are probably going to take a full 25 meaning they'll sign ~30 players due to grade and pro ball attrition. We don't have that privilege like last year. We'll probably only have 15-17 scholarships available and will sign a max of 20. Since we are going to be small this class, Saban is being more selective and will have to wait for big name recruits to commit. We've filled most of our most wanting needs with this class already with our grab-bag of offensive linemen. We still need a few interior linebackers and as it stands right now...we should be getting those soon too. The other 5-10 signees are just icing on the cake guys who won't fill a severe need but simply add depth and talent to a team already on the rise.

I'm not going to really get too caught up in Auburn recruiting, because unless we are competing for the guy...I don't care. The fact that we weren't really competing heatedly for these guys with Auburn should tell you all you need to know. Our class isn't going to 32-strong again, but it is going to be a good one. Auburn could sign 20 players tomorrow, but it doesn't change the fact that we already have a potential future star at QB, a top-tier HS tailback, and a bevy of hogs on both sides of the line. Unless, Dre and Nico pull a major coup...it doesn't change the fact that we'll capture the two top players in the state (in my opinion) before February.

We have far more than just seven.

Goober logic: A whole lot of nothing is better than a little bit of something? Like rgw says, I really don't give a whiff about their recruiting unless it's someone we were after. The truth is the truth.............regardless how much, or what kind of "spin" they try to sugar coat it with.

Besides, if they keep it up, we're gonna have to re-name them ...........the war midgets?

Well Tubby played his hand, I think it's time for Saban to call a few of these silents and drop a recruiting H-bomb on Lee County.

the reason that auburn chose to offer the "top o-lineman prospect from texas" is because he is a teammate of aubarns top qb prospect Ryan Mossasowski (they didnt want mccarron)

they both play for Frisco High in texas..

aubarn is pathetic..
Exactly right. I was scratching my head for a second when I saw Aaron Moore's profile, then I realized that he is a teammate of Mossasowski's. He is a very strong and athletic lineman but his only offer thus far is from Auburn after he camped there. Even though he is listed as an OT, I think he will end up on their D-line. He could turn out to be a diamond in the rough but so far he has not received much interest from anyone else.

It is not how you start the recruiting race, it is how you finish it that counts. The barners should know that from last year. Bama should clean house or come pretty darn close with the top prospects in Alabama and pick and choose from the top area talent. I am not too worried about what Auburn is doing in recruiting, especially right now. I know I wouldn't trade Bama's seven for their 16. Just think what CNS will do with those extra 9 slots. lol

Re: Auburn picks up THREE commitments/ Auburn's FIFTH commitment in 48 Hours (Merged)

So let us summarize the Auburn commitments of the past few days...

LaDarius Perkins
: A 5'10 and 195 pound RB prospect out of Greenwood, MS. Prior to his commitment to Auburn, none of the recruited services even had a story on the guy, and his offer list included only Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, and ULM.

Travante Stallworth: A 5'9 and 180 pound quarterback from Leesville High School in Louisiana. He's a quick guy who will play a skill position at the next level, but he has generated no interest whatsoever. His only other two offers came from Tulsa and Northwestern State. LSU wouldn't even so much as give the guy a look, even as an insurance policy for Michael Ford.

Andre Harris: A 6'4 and 335 pound offensive line prospect out of Georgia, Harris is easily the most impressive of the bunch. None of the bigger programs gave him any legitimate action, but at least he did have a BCS conference offer from Georgia Tech, and an offer from Central Florida.

LaVoyd James
: A 5'10 and 176 pound wide receiver out of Mobile, James went completely under the radar screen. His only other offers came from Ole Miss and South Alabama.

Aaron Moore
: Literally a no-name prospect until he committed. I'm not entirely sure that any of the major recruiting services even knew of his existence prior to his commitment to Auburn. I cannot find any evidence of other offers, and at this point it is very clear that he's just a token signee in an attempt to get to Ryan Mossakowski.

Bottom line, this is great news for us. These guys have racked up five commitments that combined to have at absolute most -- assuming LaVoyd James' offer from Ole Miss was legitimate -- two scholarship offers from BCS conference schools.

Seriously, how can it get any better than that if you are an Alabama fan? Not only are they going to miss out on just about every single top in-state prospect for the second year in a row, they cannot even get BCS conference caliber players. All of the major conference coaches are looking at these guys and saying, "No, they aren't good enough to play at this level," and Auburn is racking up these guys left and right! It's not just that that they can't beat out of us for top prospects, they are literally having to reach down and snatch away players who would otherwise be going to places like Tulsa, Central Florida, and Louisiana Tech. This is nothing short of marvelous.

At this point they have one shot left at one of the top in-state prospects, and that is Jamar Travis. AU led for him early, but then we made it close, and that looks to be about where it stands now. If that kid will wait a while, he's going to be an Alabama lock. There is no way that you will look at our commitment list in a few months, and then look at Auburn's, and say, "I want to be an Auburn Tiger."

My point exactly. Are we suppose to be quivering in our boots that Auburn landed a few marginal 3-stars and unranked players when we are only really targeting top-300 players in the nation with our 9-12 remaining slots?

We won't get them all...but we really don't need them all. Saban will shore up the depth at ILB then pursue the best of the rest to fill out our roster with more talent. Plus, we have to consider that Brandon Lewis will be in on our next class...that is another 4-star that might garner a 5-star prep status depending on his performance at Hargrave.

One more thing for Aubies: if Tubby is so great by taking marginal players and developing them, why doesn't every great coach just avoid 4 and 5 star recruits like the plague? There is a reason why every consistently great team this decade has had a #1 class at some point...each of the last three champions have had a top ranked former HS class together as Seniors. Texas: the Vince Young class, Florida: the Chris Leak class, LSU:The Doucet/Dorsey class. USC will probably keep up the trend this season if the NCAA doesn't put them on probation first.

And more on Rodney Scott, one of the better recruits in this class for AU...

The three-star tailback from Tampa -- who has offers from the likes of Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and South Florida -- is not all but decommitted. Though he only committed to Auburn last month, Scott is now admitting that he will "probably commit there [South Florida] later this summer."

All I can say is look out La Tech, Auburn needs a new tailback commitment.

It really is surprising ... and it brings two questions to mind.

(1) Is anyone hearing any grumbling among the Aubie fan base about this ... or are they all pretty much still drinking the koolaid?

(2) I wonder how much of this reflects Tony Franklin's influence on Auburn recruiting. After all, any of these guys would be phenomenal recruits at Troy, Franklin's previous gig. They would even be pretty good gets at his old stomping grounds at UK. Surely Tuberville wouldn't let Franklin mid-major-ize Auburn's recruiting in the name of recruiting to a system?

From an AU message board concerning their flurry of commitments

Am I the only person who is not happy with the way Auburn's recruiting is going?

The thread has more spin than a centrifuge.

To summarize:

"They don't recruit the state of Alabama that hard."

"CTT has observed these kids up close at camp and saw enough to offer."

"CTT "coaches 'em up" better than anybody in the nation."

"Character over stars!"

BTW if you drank every time "character" was mentioned in that thread, you would go through a lot of alcohol...

But you'd still be able to make a more sensible conversation than an Aubie.

Of all the amusing barner spin, the funniest is that "Tubs has torn down the so-called Saban wall around Mobile." LOL!

As others have said, there is a slight distinction between quantity and quality.

I guess if South Alabama pulls 25 2* guys from the greater Mobile area, a barner (to be consistent) would have to say that Joey Jones has built a wall around Mobile.

They better hope that Franklin is an offensive genious with smoke and mirrors, because the barn talent level is trending downwards. They're going to be in big trouble in a couple of years at this rate.
