Re: Auburn picks up THREE commitments/ Auburn's FIFTH commitment in 48 Hours (Merged)
So let us summarize the Auburn commitments of the past few days...
LaDarius Perkins: A 5'10 and 195 pound RB prospect out of Greenwood, MS. Prior to his commitment to Auburn, none of the recruited services even had a story on the guy, and his offer list included only Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, and ULM.
Travante Stallworth: A 5'9 and 180 pound quarterback from Leesville High School in Louisiana. He's a quick guy who will play a skill position at the next level, but he has generated no interest whatsoever. His only other two offers came from Tulsa and Northwestern State. LSU wouldn't even so much as give the guy a look, even as an insurance policy for Michael Ford.
Andre Harris: A 6'4 and 335 pound offensive line prospect out of Georgia, Harris is easily the most impressive of the bunch. None of the bigger programs gave him any legitimate action, but at least he did have a BCS conference offer from Georgia Tech, and an offer from Central Florida.
LaVoyd James: A 5'10 and 176 pound wide receiver out of Mobile, James went completely under the radar screen. His only other offers came from Ole Miss and South Alabama.
Aaron Moore: Literally a no-name prospect until he committed. I'm not entirely sure that any of the major recruiting services even knew of his existence prior to his commitment to Auburn. I cannot find any evidence of other offers, and at this point it is very clear that he's just a token signee in an attempt to get to Ryan Mossakowski.
Bottom line, this is great news for us. These guys have racked up five commitments that combined to have at absolute most -- assuming LaVoyd James' offer from Ole Miss was legitimate -- two scholarship offers from BCS conference schools.
Seriously, how can it get any better than that if you are an Alabama fan? Not only are they going to miss out on just about every single top in-state prospect for the second year in a row, they cannot even get BCS conference caliber players. All of the major conference coaches are looking at these guys and saying, "No, they aren't good enough to play at this level," and Auburn is racking up these guys left and right! It's not just that that they can't beat out of us for top prospects, they are literally having to reach down and snatch away players who would otherwise be going to places like Tulsa, Central Florida, and Louisiana Tech. This is nothing short of marvelous.
At this point they have one shot left at one of the top in-state prospects, and that is Jamar Travis. AU led for him early, but then we made it close, and that looks to be about where it stands now. If that kid will wait a while, he's going to be an Alabama lock. There is no way that you will look at our commitment list in a few months, and then look at Auburn's, and say, "I want to be an Auburn Tiger."
