Re: Auburn picks up THREE commitments/ Auburn's FIFTH commitment in 48 Hours (Merged)

All this talk about Auburn's recruiting has me remembering a couple years ago with the recruiting battle b/w USC and UCLA.

UCLA started the recruiting year (after NSD) hot by getting 15-20 something recruits all in March and April, while USC really hadn't made any news. USC ended up with a real solid recruiting class (top 10) while UCLA actually lost some commits to USC and other schools. However, during all of this, UCLA fans were proclaiming that USC was dead in LA and that they had taken back Southern California away from USC. There were some USC fans worried (no idea why), but the overall consensus was that Carroll knew what he was doing and would close well.

I'm not worried at all about Auburn's class, because I trust CNS (just like many of y'all on here) will do what he needs to do to rebuild our football team. Tubby is trying to sustain a program while Saban is rebuilding it so our recruiting needs are a bit different. It would not surprise me one bit if Alabama ends up with a top 10 recruiting class come 2009 NSD, while Auburn doesn't get top 10.

Here is one for you guys who like to lower your IQ and visit their sites:

Go over there and ask them of the 16 that you are so proud of which one is the one you are the happiest to have. Which one did you pull out of the recruiting fire and everyone was just killing themselves to get but yet the barn landed...

Let's just see what the answer is to that and go from there~!~

I would say of the 7 we have it is a close race but AJ is top followed by TR and DJ ~!~ Now that's some power recruiting~!~ The other 4 could easily be 4 stars by years end unlike the barn where of the 16 3 are 4 stars and one is not even going there and the rest are 3 stars with only maybe 1 able to pull in that 4th star.... Yea I know tubby will make them all-americans by their third year.....LOL... He lost the only reason he has kept his job this long in his co-ordinators and now is betting the farm on a spread offense with minumal skill players... Good luck with that~!~:eek2::biggrin::BigA:

Barn top 10???? Dude at the rate they are going they will be lucky to land in the top 25, but keep on snagging all of these players no one knows it might work out for you in the long run~!~

Well, it comes down to selectivity. When you have a full class to offer, you can be a little loose and take some early commits from some tweeners and guys who can grow but still have spots for the big names. When you are looking at a small class - like Saban is right now - you have to treat your offers with care. You don't want to offer too many guys who have a good camp and caught your eye at the risk of losing spots for top-tier guys late in the game. I'm sure Saban will miss out on a few 3-star guys who can be solid players just because he's going to be forced to tell them "we like you but we are still evaluating the position" because he's waiting for other guys to make their decision. Whoever ends up in our 2009 class, they will be very good fits with our program and probably be at or near the top of our big board.

:bigear: is about to destroy his own myth.......that he is able to "coach up" players. It's relatively easy to do when you're racking up good recruiting classes (thanks to the ncaa hancuffing your chief in-state rivals hands) but will surely expose him for the fraud he really is in a couple of years. The goobers are going to be a sad bunch in a short while.

Re: I was just offered an Auburn scholarship!

On a serious note, in HS I had my ACT score sent to Auburn, among others. Most schools would send followup info on their school. Not Auburn, I started getting dorm and financial aid applications in the mail. Evidently, I passed go and was admitted without even applying. This may be common now, but in 89 I don't think it was.

I love getting in playful debates with Aubies and then throwing out the, "Well heck, I didn't even apply to Auburn and was admitted...." The looks on their faces is AUsome.

Heh ... does it make me a bad person that I'm starting to enjoy following Auburn's recruiting almost as much as Alabama's?

This will make the third straight year of sub-par recruiting classes down there.

Re: Auburn picks up THREE commitments today

I wanna act like its no big deal...but tubby will coach em up enough to be competitive...and until we finally beat them (which god I hope will be this year), I will not say anything about their recruiting, because whatever they have done for the past for 6 years has worked (even though I know Saban will change this, i wont say so until it happens)........

ahh, i dunno man. go look at rivals or scout and look at past recruiting years. ull find that the barn had their fair share of 5stars. and yes they had a few guys who were ranked 3stars that had a break out tenure for the barn and went to the league. also notice that Alabama didnt have the quality or quantity of athelets that the barn did. haha, but check this link out and youll see that down at the Capstone, God's Country, we also can train up 3 stars to be NFL beasts and All americans. Re: Auburn picks up THREE commitments/ Auburn's FIFTH commitment in 48 Hours (Merged)

I've seen this mentioned several times, and I just want to make it clear that a 3 star player going to the NFL doesn't necessarily mean he was "coached up," at least not any more than a 4 or 5 star player...especially when you consider Scout.com's method for assigning stars. 1-50 are automatically 5 star, and 51-200 (I think) are 4 star. That means that some players may be evaluated as 3 star but may really be every bit as good as a high 4 star or low 5 star player if the talent in the country is especially deep that year.

Also, by Rival's method of assigning stars, they define a 3 star player as having NFL talent but that they may require more time to realize their potential or aren't as sure to develop as a 4 or 5 star player.

Just to clarify. :)

Re: Auburn picks up THREE commitments/ Auburn's FIFTH commitment in 48 Hours (Merged)

From an AU message board concerning their flurry of commitments

Am I the only person who is not happy with the way Auburn's recruiting is going?

The thread has more spin than a centrifuge.

To summarize:

"They don't recruit the state of Alabama that hard."

"CTT has observed these kids up close at camp and saw enough to offer."

"CTT "coaches 'em up" better than anybody in the nation."

"Character over stars!"

BTW if you drank every time "character" was mentioned in that thread, you would go through a lot of alcohol...

You left off my favorite quote from that thread:

And if you think it's BETTER to have to play the title game instead of posting split championships (as we did in 88 and 89), you're out of your mind.
That statement summarizes the difference between us, one counts championships, and one claims championships any way they can.
