I think I read somewhere in this thread that we were asked to tell some good stories about cops, not just bad. So here goes…

I was recently driving thru Hillsboro on a state highway and got pulled over for speeding by the local policeman. Hillsboro has the reputation of being one of those communities that lean too much on tickets and fines to raise money.

So imagine my surprise when the cop gave me a warning ticket. I was so grateful.

And, the police in Decatur do not routinely pull you over for not wearing a seatbelt.
I got a ticket there 47 years ago

On Nov. 9, children in Blackfoot, Idaho, were going door-to-door leaving anonymous thank-you messages for people in the community.

After kids tried to tape a note to Rowland's door, he later confronted them and stopped the car of their church leader, allegedly using profanity and threatening them with a handgun.

According to local press reports, Rowland also allegedly grabbed the driver of the car by her hair and pulled her out of the vehicle.

Rowland, age 62, has since been charged with felony aggravated battery and and assault as well as a misdemeanor charge related to exhibition of a deadly weapon.

Much of America wants policing to change. But these self-proclaimed experts tell officers they’re doing just fine.

Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” screamed from the casino conference room speakers as hundreds of police officers stood to welcome Tomi Lahren with cheers and whistles.
The 29-year-old political commentator was the most anticipated presenter at the Street Cop Training Conference in Atlantic City in October, pumping up officers at a time when shootings by police, especially of Black civilians, have fueled calls for a rethinking of public safety and most Americans doubt police are adequately trained to avoid using excessive force. Lahren offered a starkly different worldview, one in which Black Lives Matter activists are “thugs, felons and criminals” and a “terrorist organization,” and Democrats are instilling violent chaos in an effort to nationalize policing and restrict individual freedoms.

“If I’m wrong, please point it out,” she told a crowd that organizers said numbered more than 1,000, from police departments large and small across New Jersey and beyond. “But all these major headline incidents that we’ve had in this country involving law enforcement in the last at least five years could have all been prevented if people would just comply with police, would follow orders and not resist arrest.”

Police unions are so strong in this country that it is very rare that a bad cop gets fired. At least fired with cause, and losing very much. Nearly all of them get to keep their pensions, and most of them are not even labeled "firings". Re-termed "separation agreements".

Last weekend's This American Life showed glowing examples.

First, I see no reason for a police policy of searching any vehicle without probable cause.

That said, as frustrating as that is, how would the officers have known the chartered bus was filled with black players?

They said the bus was pulled over for being in the left lane, which is not allowed for buses. That seems reasonable for pulling him over. But other than giving him a ticket (a warning should have sufficed) I don’t see any reason to even get on the bus.
