Very interesting article, and suggests to me that Saban is clearly signaling that the "sandlot" era of Alabama offenses is over, and it will now be "back to business' with a pro-style offense - the style that has won all 6 of Saban's NC's.

It also makes me wonder if the decision to go "sandlot" in 2016 was as much (or more) Kiffin's decision as Saban's?

Or maybe its just a sign that Saban has accepted that Tua is the future, and is building his staff accordingly?

You think what we've done the last two years is "sandlot" football?

Another thing to consider: Enos utilized the tight ends a lot at Arkansas. Hunter Henry was a stud in 2015. All of Alabama's tight ends return this year.

I think we go "Pro Set heavy" with our offense. We have the tools to do it. Most times that's not the case. So when you have the personnel to do it, you do. Because if you've got the right parts in place, it's a deadly offense. We've got all the parts to run it.

Lord knows using the tight ends more would be welcome. I’m absolutely stoked about this staff with this team.

All five tight ends return this year. Smith, Hentges, Forristall, Tennison and James. I hope Forristall recovers from his injury because he is a very talented athlete. Will be interesting to see how James is used. He was listed at 6-5, 270 last year. Could he move to defensive line or just stay at tight end as a massive blocker ?

I thought Brian Daboll would make us all mourn the departure of OJ Howard to the NFL. That never materialized in any meaningful way.

You all are correct that Enos's offenses at Arkansas featured the TE as a pass catcher.

Hunter Henry and Jeremy Sprinkle were big parts of the Arkansas passing attack. It should be fun to watch Enos balance the tight ends with all of the receiver and running back talent. Not to mention the insane talent on the offensive line.

He has relied heavily on "Ace" formations with multiple tight ends and has asked his quarterbacks to operate from under center with dropbacks that range from three to seven steps.

He's also shown he's predisposed toward play-action.

"The big thing each and every game is to be able to create balance," Enos said in 2016.

I've been dreaming we'd go back to these type of looks and tendencies!!!

We were undefendable when playing at our best in 2012. I'm sure ND would agree!

I don't know if our OL will be that good this year (although some are speculating it might), but I think we might be better (overall) at all the other positions.

This will be exciting to watch develop.

I think the offense in 2018 could be better than the 2012 unit. We are better and have more depth overall. The starting line in 2012 was great but the depth was okay. The line this year is literally three deep with great players at every position. The tight ends, running backs and receivers are all other world talents. Then you have Tua doing his thing and Jalen backing him up. I like our position.

Except unlike most of my lifetime, we actually have good college talent at TE and OJ Howard is possibly an All-Pro type in a year or two.

It has actually been a hot minute since I last saw a Bama QB take a significant number of snaps under center. AJ maybe? Even he ran predominantly from the gun and pistol if I remember correctly.

I feel like Tua would still continue to run power & pro concepts from the gun or pistol, but what do I know.

With the recent hires (primarily Enos and Gattis) I wondering if CNS is expecting the offense to “carry the team” somewhat in the early going next year? We got a lot of talent on defense, but a little thin in experience and depth on the d line and a lot of youth in the secondary.

Conversely, we’ve got a ton of returning players on offense, especially in the skill positions. This could be one of the most explosive offenses we’ve seen in a long time at Bama.

We pretty much have “played to our defense” historically under CNS. Just wondering if this is the year we “flip the script” somewhat letting the offense take the lead to give the defense some time to gel?

In a word...YES! While the defense will be stronger than most in D1 I doubt that it will be as good as the last few years. Just start with having to break in new DB's. IF the OL comes along as we think and the QB's continue to develop (TT primarily) our passing attack, we could see a Saban era record setting offense. I am pumped that CNS has brought in a specific QB coach.

What I really want to know is if he will implement the Hunter Henry "throwback" pass that beat Ole Miss and won UA the division championship. I just hope we never have to use it...but it was well thought out.

Didn't he fling it over his head in a miraculous attempt to continue the play? Only to have an AA RB grab it on a bounce and go like 27 yards on a fourth and 26? That IS well thought out!!!

No doubt the gun and pistol will still be used and quite a bit, but more under center coming which really sets up play action.
