I wouldn't have been upset about Mbakwe except he's clearly talented and recruits for the team and is Ryan's friend. He's 3rd to 4th best corner or receiver at the moment, he's a prime transfer type guy that leaves just to get significant time as a starter.
losing guys who are 3rd or 4th matters though.

Take the Wolf role this year. We started the year pretty deep; Qua and QRob as kinda co-starters, with Koht as a long down/distance pass-rush specialist and Pierre behind them as the 4 deep. Qua is dinged up early, Koht and Qrob really more pass rush guys. Pierre still learning some things. Then Koht is gone, and Qrob is hurt.

We ended up having to slide a 285 pound bandit into that role for a lot of situations, so were limited in the things we could do there.

There were also tons of times this season when we had 4-5 CBs play in competitive games, even if a guy just came in for a few plays so the staff could talk over something with a starter, or there was something with a match up.

We also went DEEP in the WR bench, at least with who all saw the field.

The SEC is a grind, and it takes depth to make it through.

Which is why they need to start scheduling more cupcakes and have fewer conference games.

Had a disappointing year and would be behind sabb bray mincey and morgan at safety. Jones taking the nickel job probably sealed that too
I don't get the hype around morgan. Seemed like every time Smith came out and they put Morgan in we gave up a big play either right at him, or right over him cause he was out of position.

Gotta give true freshmen time. I would encourage folks to remeber true freshmen seasons from minkah or kool-aid or diggs.

But he came out of camp on smiths heels to start at Husky. Will push for the start there this year and should take a leap.

yeah, but Minkah wasn't as out of position as often as Morgan and all those guys were starting, not just filling in. I'm sure he'll get better, but he was literally a liability every time he stepped out there relative to Smith which is why I don't understand the hype and how he was pushing anyone for time.

Minkah? You mean the unicorn? The "standard" that every DB is held to? That's not a fair comparison.
Also, the new coaching staff likely contributed somewhat to the keystone cops routine that the defense looked like from time to time. There were plenty of missed assignments to go around. It's likely that not all of the ones that looked like Morgan's miss was actually his responsibility.

I think I've become immune to pre-season position hype from hearing for a decade straight that the O-Line was going to rival 2012's.
