DeBoer from all accounts uses the portal to target specific players that can run his system and doesn’t go after splash guys that rank high on websites. So many of these guys may seem random or meh, but these guys maybe stars by the end of 25. Remember that probably the best guys on the team this year were guys DeBoer brought in like Bernard, Brailsford, and Saab.

The numbers don't lie. He graded out very bad and was a swinging door most of tge year. I wonder if he was "encouraged" to look? No way they were begging him to stay.
Im thinking DeBoer wants a far more athletic offensive line.

I honestly have serious questions about why Saban went for such a huge line and never developed a great power running game with it.

losing guys who are 3rd or 4th matters though.

Take the Wolf role this year. We started the year pretty deep; Qua and QRob as kinda co-starters, with Koht as a long down/distance pass-rush specialist and Pierre behind them as the 4 deep. Qua is dinged up early, Koht and Qrob really more pass rush guys. Pierre still learning some things. Then Koht is gone, and Qrob is hurt.

We ended up having to slide a 285 pound bandit into that role for a lot of situations, so were limited in the things we could do there.

There were also tons of times this season when we had 4-5 CBs play in competitive games, even if a guy just came in for a few plays so the staff could talk over something with a starter, or there was something with a match up.

We also went DEEP in the WR bench, at least with who all saw the field.

The SEC is a grind, and it takes depth to make it through.
The situation at Wolf where there were 2 really good players and a decent backup that was basically kicked off the team is different than Mbakwe.

From what I've seen defensively from him, if he's starting it's basically like having Pierre start at Wolf in your scenario. He's not ready and hasn't proven anything. I know he's not ready as a wr.

I'm not saying let him go and not get anything in saying let him go and get a more proven #4 (which is what Jalen is on either side) and not pay him 7 figures (which I hope they didn't).

Exactly, the last couple of years we've had no consistent running game unless you call JM a running back, and some do.

I can't wait to see the changes CKD will make. If he can work the portal and get the right guys (and we identify the right QB#1) we may look like a totally different team next year!

Nor have we had good pass protection.

Alabama has not had a decent OL coach since the days of Pendry and Stoutland. Stoutland left after the 2013 season. I will always believe that the game is won at the LOS on both sides of the ball.
The 2020 o-line was fantastic. Absolute monsters! We haven't had a good o-line since them and since Kyle Flood left with Sarkisian.

This is nonsense. We had great OLs after 2013, particularly 2015 and 2020. We haven’t been good since 2020 though.
