It's the way of the new CFB and I'm sure other schools are losing the same types of recruits. These kids aren't going to "wait" on anything. They're used to getting everything now, so why stop now?
I’m completely understanding of a situation where a kid has 2-3 years in the program, has redshirted, and is still buried on the depth chart, or has an injury plagued career and wants a fresh start elsewhere. I get it. I’m supportive of the players in those situations.

But my Lord, you’re a true freshman that actually got on the field or in some cases actually started and you jump in the portal? It is beyond absurd.

Interesting that I heard Cole Cubelic on a bowl game broadcast talk about players today and how they “think”. When he came up playing in high school and later at Auburn, you did anything and everything to just “get on the field”. Play special teams? Absolutely. Switch positions? Sure Coach where? We need you on defense? Will you play on that side of the ball? Yep let’s get started.

Cole made the comment “Today a coach comes to a player and says “we are thin at guard. I can get you on the field if you play there.” The player these days? “No thanks. I’m a LEFT TACKLE”. Players would rather sit the bench than do what it takes to play”.

Pretty telling…

Any team concept that was left in sports is completely gone now. I see this at the youth league and high school level in many different facets of sports. It's pathetic.

When will the NCAA allow teams to trade players and allow teams to include a future recruit in a trade?
That’s the only thing not happening as of yet.

The first thing they need to fix is that if someone puts their name in the portal that’s it they are off the team and can’t come back.

They are specifically trying to put pressure on the place they are at for either more money or something else like we saw with the CB to WR position swap.

That's sad. In HS I was always #2 shooting guard. I didn't have as good of a skill set to play point, but I got called up to varsity as a Soph. to play point, but got injured and missed the rest of the season before I could. I played point my whole Jr. year because that's what my coach wanted. Started every game. Finally, played the #2 my senior year and got to fill it up!

I mean, I guess the kids no longer know the classic song, "Put me in Coach, I'm ready to play???"

Is this true??!!? Yikes if so. Not good for Deboar

Bama is quietly bleeding out their current talent. They've basically lost an entire recruiting class this portal cycle. In this portal window, so far:
  • Bama has had 24 players portal, 11 (!) were in their 2-deep.
  • They’ve lost four 5-stars, and sixteen 4-stars. That's almost a 3rd of their blue chip players from the 2024 roster, not counting graduating players.
  • They’ve lost 21 top 250 players, and 12 top 100 players.

When you sign predominately 5 stars and 4 stars that is what you are going to lose. That is a lot of talent to lose, but Bama does not exactly have a bunch of three stars to lose. I am not trying to blow sunshine on a situation we would rather not be in, just throwing that perspective in the hat.

"there are lies damn lies and statistics”

This post is just a good proof of that. Who are the 5 stars? Alexander, Pritchett, Haynes, and Oatis/Payne? At least we are not talking about Ben Davis anymore.

Coaches have lost all leverage...with the transfer and NIL rules, all the power is with the player....thats why entering the portal is a good thing for players....you either get a new starting role or you get more money..and in some cases both....I'd hate to be a coach with the current rules.

It’s no longer college football. We are now in the price is right era…education and wins are secondary to how many dollars I can spend on a car and a lazy boy for the parents. When the eligibility is shot and you’re degree is a hodgepodge of meaningless classes and your name and ability don’t count for anything welcome to low and middle management positions. Frankly your resume shows me you don’t last anywhere and you aren’t job worthy. This will be a great HBR case study 20 years from now.

That's what all of the talking heads want you to believe and think, " what's going on in Tuscaloosa all this 5 star talent jumping ship" no it's not!

I'll be honest, we are losing guys to the portal I forgot we even had. Hadn't heard most of these guys names since they signed.

And you are right. CNS only signed a handful of 3 stars and there was a reason, so the rest of them were 4 and 5 stars.

*REMINDER FOR ALL OF US* Based on JessN's articles in the past which reviewed signing classes down the road, only about half of a normal class of 25 will ever play. Hopefully, most of these guys are the half that would have never played.

This is all important...if we track most classes by the time they were seniors only about 10 or so are contributors in any sense of the word. With the portal they just leave sooner than before where options were limited. We are not at practice and quite frankly do not know who can play and who cannot on a regular basis, much less be a star. I have seen tons of players who had outstanding athletic ability but were never able to contribute to that level.
