How can these people not show up for the Iron Bowl? I remember being in the student section at Legion Field in 1998 for the Iron Bowl and it was so packed that nobody around me could sit down. We were like sardines being squeezed in there.

A lot of those seats are open because the students are packed in like sardines in other areas. It would be interesting to see how many students actually swiped in vs their capacity. Also if a fraternity person sells a ticket to another student or on eBay to a student guest, those people are more likely to try to cram in towards the 20 yard line rather than the endzone ...

And an attempt to get this thread back on topic ... doesn't really look like construction is starting this year does it? If it was going to be ready for the 2010 season I would think they would be breaking ground today, 2011 perhaps?

Not going to happen.
Unfortunately I'd have to agree. I started fussing to a family member in school at UA, about how they (the rest of the student body) needed to put a stop to it. He basically said that the Greeks and "The Machine" run the campus. They get what they want. That maybe if all the non-Greeks could band together, they might get something done, but that it wasn't likely to happen.

The Greeks will always get what they want, I'm convinced of it. I've only given up a ticket once, but it was because it was an extra ticket that I had since one of my California friends was planning on flying in for the Iron Bowl this past weekend. He told me early enough last week that he wasn't going to be able to come, so I sold it to a classmate of mine for $85.

I'm of the opinion that if you're a student, and you're not going to the game, sell it to another Alabama student that doesn't have a ticket. Yeah, you're gonna want to make some money, but going to an Alabama game is a special experience, especially if it's the Iron Bowl, and so you shouldn't have qualms in maximizing your repayment. The same should be applied to Tide Priders, if you're not going to the game, sell it to someone that is an Alabama fan that can go to the game. I don't know what the rules are for Tide Priders, so maybe it's different, but let's just work together and ensure that BDS is the most intimidating stadium in the country!

Whoever owns the Tide Pride seats next to me in BDS is a total traitor. Almost every big game we have, especially the Iron Bowl, he gives, I repeat gives his seats to the opposing teams fans! What is up with this guy? I have never seen the same people in these seats more than one game. I can understand selling ticketsn for certain lightweight games, but this guy is obviously selling them for profit every game, and giving them to opposing team's fans too often. There were six or seven Auburn fans that sat next to me in BDS Saturday due to this Phony Bama fan selling or giving his tickets away.

Ah, come on guys. Greeks are always very easy to put a blame on, and they usually deserve it, but this should not be the case here.

They sit in the worst portion of the student section, behind the goalposts. Unless it's a field goal, It is really hard to watch football from there - you can't really say if it's a 10-yard or a 2-yard run. I don't know if that's historically that they were pushed there by other students.

There are more seats than greeks in that portion of the student section. Remember, that there are no seat assignments for student tickets. Obviously, if you are not a greek, you don't want to seat over there. So, you go to better places, unless they are taken and you are forced to go to worse if you're late.

So there you go.

I want to see the largest capacity possible. We can do just that. I want up there with at least penn state. 105,000.

Here is a picture from a Penn State game where the attendance was right at 110,000. I don't see how it's that full with all the gaps between the upper decks.

It seems if they can fit 110,000 in there, then we could top it. But then again, what do I know. For bragging rights alone I want the biggest in the land.

OT a little bit, but how awesome are the Penn State white outs? It appears as if every fan there (except the Notre Dame fans) are wearing white. I wish we could organize a "Crimson Out" at some point. I know we generally wear Crimson to games, but a lot of fans may wear white or black or something else entirely. I'd like to see at some point our administration send out an email encouraging everyone to wear Crimson from head to toe, I think it would look pretty amazing.

Here's the thing.... if it wasn't for the preferred reserved seating areas (which is a trend unique to Alabama from what I can tell & I've been to every SEC stadium) then we wouldn't even know who wasn't showing up. They wanted the seating arrangement, got it and now that people aren't showing up for big games when we're facing an undefeated season they need to take responsibility for their members not showing - for WHATEVER reason.
