Saban was just on ESPNU He said Deaderick's wounds are being treated as a puncture wounds. There was no nerve or bone damage. He did get hit in the hip, but same as the arm, no nerve or bone damage.

Good news indeed! :)

Update EDIT: Deaderick Released from Hospital.

I bet if Brandon ever runs across the little scumbag that shot him, there WILL be some bone damage. ;)

Ditto. But truth be told it's highly unlikely. As I said in another thread, they're too concerned about eyeing people down for u-turns, broken tag-lights, and jay-walking to worry about armed robberies, meth heads, and drug lords. Gotta love our brave law enforcement!
Sounds like, from your post, that you've had your share of run-ins with the law. If you're not breaking the law, the chances you'll have trouble with them is very slim. Why don't you grow up a little - give them the respect they deserve! They do a job that 99% of the population wouldn't have the guts to do, and they're not paid nearly enough for the job they do - putting their lives on the line every time they go out in the streets trying to protect people just like you and me. So how 'bout laying off, aight?

FF , thank you for coming into "our house" [...]
Hey there's football and then there's what really matters. I agree with an old coach of mine who once said that football will teach you just about everything you need to know in order to be successful in life, but... for all but a very lucky few, it's just a game. One about which we're very passionate, to be sure, but a game nonetheless. If you can't put a young man's life ahead of that game, it's time to take a hard look in the mirror and reassess your priorities.

Well said - thanks! Not that football doesn't matter.....but it doesn't compare with life. When all is said and done, it IS just a game, and I love it! Thanks for your classy comments - come back any time. And thanks to all the Hokie fans for their kind posts! Hope you have a great season, with only one loss!

re: Brandon Deaderick Update per Saban, Deaderick to "probably" miss opener

Glad to hear that it wasn't as bad as it sounded this morning when the stories first came out. Dunno how realistic it is (and lord knows, you guys don't need any more help!) but I hope he's able to play or at least dress and be there on the sidelines with his teammates.

Hope the cops find the scumbag who did it!
Wanted to add to the thanks given by others for the useful and classy comments you and other Hokies have made here. Hope you will find some reason (other than to celebrate a VT win:frown:) to return now and then.

By the way, I've penciled in a few updates to the VT game and player summary you gave us. Still plan to use it come game time. Thanks again.

I'm not one for starting rumors...but this is what I am hearing and I can believe it...

The gun was pointed at the girl as she had the car keys...which is what the robber wanted. Deaderick tried to stop him from taking the keys and attempted to grab the gun. This explains why he was shot in the forearm. This makes him even more of a hero in my book.

Now...this could turn out to be false...but it seems very credible considering his wounds and how the story sounded in the beginning.

Deaderick to "probably" miss opener

Saban updates Deaderick | TideSports.com | The Tuscaloosa News | Tuscaloosa, AL

University of Alabama defensive end Brandon Deaderick will miss Saturday's game against Virginia Tech, coach Nick Saban said Wednesday, but his status beyond the Crimson Tide's season opener remains unclear.

"Brandon Deaderick obviously will probably miss this game, but he is very fortunate not to be injured any worse than he is," Saban said.
Junior Luther Davis and sophomore Marcell Dareus are the primary candidates to replace Deaderick in the starting lineup.

It is standard procedure for gun shot wounds to result in "probable" status.

Thanks for the update. Boy, am I glad this young man is still alive and not seriously hurt. To still be able to play football is a blessing, but to be able to live ... now that's an entirely different kind of blessing.

Still would be nice to see him suit up, but he probably should sit out. It's going to be a long season.

Brandon is one brave man for sure.

As far as the "wound" goes, rub some dirt on it and get back in the lineup! :biggrin2: :BigA:

I am in limbo as to believe that he might still play cause when CNS says probably that means there is still a chance. Would be a HUGE emotional lift if he just gets in there for one play. While I know his life and health are way more important than a football game I believe that CNS will have a hard time keeping him off the field.

Does anyone else feel that if BD puts up a fight to play in the game that CNS will still not play him?? I really feel that if he can play with no effects that BD will DEMAND to step out there and play and he just might~?~

I imagine Saban will leave that up to the doctors and respect their opinion. If the doctors say Deaderick sholdn't play, then I don't think CNS would let him play despite what BD wants.
