Buyers remorse for Freeze?

The vast majority adamantly believe he will be the " savior" they need to resurrect auburn to its rightful place in the SEC.
This is the one that always gets me. "Rightful place" for Auburn is about 6th in the SEC (Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida all have more hardware and Texas A&M is a much bigger/better program), so go for it.

He was hired because he beat Saban twice and doesn't mind breaking a few rules to win games.
I'm told Saban thinks he's a really good offensive mind and I tend to agree. He's really good at WR development, which is why Auburn trying to flip all of Alabama's WR recruits is concerning. He will be tough in future years when he has better talent. Harsin left nothing.

Exactly. Outside of Saban, Kirby, and Dabo NO ACTIVE HC HAS WON A NC. You could hire anyone outside of those three (well, exclude Dabo) and you would probably hope to get one NC in 7 years.
Mack Brown (UNC) and Jimbo Fisher (aTm) have both won titles. But not at their current programs, of course.

Nick Saban has won more titles than all other active FBS coaches, combined.

Yep, players matter. As great as Nick Saban is, the players and the quality of said players is what allows his greatness to be shown.

Let's be clear. This year's IB will be very similar to 2021. Even as awful as the barn has been this year, they will take us down to the wire. I'm still not sold on us, because I feel like the (2nd half) beatdown of UcheaT said more about them than us. Just my .02 there.

I don't think Freeze is going anywhere, barring him doing something so egregious that they just can't overlook it. If they actually did fire him after say, his third year, that would be 3 firings in 5 years. Even Nebraska hasn't had that fast of a coaching turnover and they have hired and fired a lot since Tom Osborne retired

I'm guessing that Auburn is at the point that they're practicing for us as much as they're practicing for their weekly opponents.

Freeze knows that the only thing that can put a positive face on this season is beating us.

Is that even possible? Unless he murders someone, they will overlook it as long as he is winning. After all, he is the "perfect fit" for the program.

There is no doubt in my mind that when they do fire him, they won't owe him a buyout because they will have something on him (and probably already do).;)

Auburn's entire hiring process never makes any sense to me at all anyway. They hit the jackpot with Pat Dye, I'll admit that. he created some strong defenses and tough teams, and in another time perhaps they win a national championship. Quite bluntly, they got robbed in 1983. But Dye at the time was the same kind of up and coming coach had some head coaching experience just not in the SEC.

Their hires since then with the conspicuous exception perhaps of Tommy Tubberville border on the ludicrous to absurd scale in my view. Terry Bowden was nothing but a name, I have always assumed that the Gene Chizik hire was because they assumed they could get him cheap and Saban was not going to be at Alabama very long since that had been his pattern up to that point in time. Gus got hired because he had given us a scare as the OC in 09 and they had to come back in 2010 which he got more credit than Gene did. Then, they let themselves get frightened into rehiring Gus and then fired him in favor of Mr. potato head, and then, OK, I can see hiring Hugh Freeze based on past on the field success, but given the circumstances that gave rise to that success, I just don't see how this is anything other than to make sure Saban doesn't get him as the OC, which it was no secret he wanted him.

I understand as I noted earlier that hiring a college football coach can be a crapshoot, and a guy who failed somewhere can do very well elsewhere and vice versa. But it seems to me that somebody with Auburn ties like Cadillac Williams might have been the better choice, not that I really want Auburn to hire a decent football coach anyway.

also, as I have said add nausea on this board, Auburn is annually and 8–4 team every year. They just go about obtaining those average of eight wins in the most bizarre way of any team in college football, where they will win 12 one year and for the next, which will still average out to eight.

Over time, they are an eight-win team every single year. It's just some years they are very successful.

It's difficult to believe that Freeze would have come to Alabama as OC from his HC position at Liberty. Unless there were rumblings about that with which I'm unfamiliar, that seems unlikely. I know before he got the Liberty job that CNS wanted him as OC and he likely would have taken it, but he would have left the Bama OC job for the AU HC job.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.
I know a few that talked a big game about that but quickly lightened their stance once the games started.
I’ve said from the beginning I hope he flames out faster than Harsin did lol. I think hiring him was an ethical nightmare full stop and want him gone.

Some of those that bandwagoned once it became clear he was the hire are starting to have a hard time justifying it now. Yes it’s early but this feels very much like late stage Gus even with the talent deficit. The game day coaching decisions are utterly ridiculous. Robby get us a 3rd and 1 and we rotate the QBs and get a substitution penalty? Christ on a cracker how thick can you get to rotate QBs there.

That and the revelation that he’s not even concerning himself with coaching until about 30 minutes prior to the game because he’s recruiting or something along those lines ticked me off. Recruiting and coaching to win aren’t mutually exclusive.

I've listened to his press conferences fairly regularly since they tend to occur on my lunch break. It's bizarre. The whole notion of him not calling offensive plays... that's what he does! I've never been a huge fan of the HC being the play caller but when that is your claim to fame, if I hire you, I expect you to call plays.

It's almost like he's a double agent and is secretly sabotaging Abuurn. Which would be hilarious if it could possibly be true. In reality, he's a clown, and AU was stupid to hire him.

He’s treating it as a throwaway year and tiptoeing around flat out saying it.

I remember a clip from Freeze's hiring press conference, where he said something along the lines of "Nick's a friend, but everyone needs to know that we're coming".

That was a lot more confident than the rambling excuse-o-rama I just listened to a few minutes ago.
