Would seem a non—QB wouldn’t have the same influence on the outcome of football games like say baseball or basketball but don’t think it matters. Pretty much all professional leagues prohibit gambling in their sport. It’s a big no-no. Based on the NFL’s statement it looks like he has a window to return. Hope he can sort it out because that’s some pretty poor judgment. I’m sure he’s lost his salary too. That’s got to hurt.

The crazy thing is that he wasn't playing -- out on IR -- and was not in contact with other players, etc. I know it is wrong...but a year seems like a really harsh penalty.

Wow...how stupid was that? Where was his agent? I thought they baby sat tall their clients.

There is a bit of hypocrisy on the part of the NFL -- condoning and encouraging gambling, but coming down on players when they do? He did not bet on the Falcons to lose -- probably an indictment in and of it self.
I think they are "condoning" it to their viewers/customers, much like when I worked in the casino business. It was against policy for us to gamble at any property owned by Harrah's Entertainment. They wouldn't have an issue with it if he was gambling on CFL or XFL games.

He was out for “personal issues” ..not an injury. Perhaps this occurred while he did play earlier in the year, and the personal issues were dealing with the investigation…getting counseling etc? Obviously I’m just purely speculating

A year is very harsh. But the NFL sees it as the integrity of the game is at stake. It doesn’t matter that he had no contact with the Falcons, in Florida at the time and bet on the Falcons to win . It doesn’t matter he only bet $1500. It only matters that he bet on NFL football. A year plus is what he will get.

Ridley was in Florida when monitoring software red flagged his bet.

After looking at past NFL gamblers I guess Ridley's punishment is consistent. He joins other notables such as Art Schlichter, Alex Karras, and Paul Hornung. Schlichter actually gambled during his suspension and never came back while Karras and Hornung were only suspended for a year or two and in the case of Hornung later made the Hall of Fame.
