I wouldn't be surprised if it's the tip of the iceberg for ridley, for people funded like ridley $1500 is on the low end of the scale.

he was betting a 5 team parlay, really? that's what someone does when you are way down on the day. always thought it was something else besides a mental problem but gambling was not on the list. good luck calvin.
Does a millionaire really need to gamble? Ain't like the man needed to make money. No sympathy here.

Whatever. They push gambling on America and pass rules to limit gambling of their employees.
WHAT? come on b1g, they are not limiting gambling by their employees. You can gamble on anything you want. Mouse races, poker, parcheesi, Any sport imaginable but just not the NFL.

My apologies to B1G, You are correct, i just found out that the NFL doesn't allow you to gamble on any sports, i did not know that. Still the rules are the rules, whether they may seem hypocritical or not.

What Mr. Ridley needs to realize that a "problem" is not measured by the amount of the bet, but by whether one knows when to pass and then do so. Not saying he's a compulsive gambler-by the sound of it, I'd guess he's just doing a social thing and its barely about the gambling for him-but he's demonstrating little or no understanding of why he's not supposed to gamble on NFL games.

This is inaccurate. Players are allowed to bet on other sports via legal means. Excerpt from the NFL policy (source: https://nflcommunications.com/Documents/2018 Policies/2018 Gambling Policy - FINAL.pdf):

Restrictions on Legal Gambling
NFL Personnel are restricted or prohibited from engaging in the following gambling-related activities, regardless of whether such activities are legal:

1. Betting on Football: All NFL Personnel are prohibited from placing, soliciting, or facilitating any bet, whether directly or indirectly through a third-party, on any NFL game, practice or other event. This includes betting on game outcome, statistics, score, performance of any individual participant, or any other kind of “proposition bet” on which wagering is offered.

2. Betting on Other Sports: All NFL Personnel other than Players [emphasis added] are further prohibited from placing, soliciting, or facilitating bets on any other professional (e.g., NBA, MLB, NHL, PGA, USTA, MLS), college (e.g., NCAA basketball), international (e.g., World Baseball Classic, World Cup), or Olympic sports competition, tournament or event.

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
Let's put this into perspective, your employer comes to you and says, we'll pay you $2.7 million/year but you cannot gamble within our industry.

Someone tell me why you would even bother crying "NOT FAIR" with that type trade-off? Talk about a dumb hill to die on...classic cutting your nose off to spite your face.

Yep. the No Fun League is all about supporting betting on their games but not so much about their employees getting in on the fun. Can't mess with the lines, doncha know.

Why does it matter, honestly? These players are making ungodly amounts of money, and of all the other things to do in life for fun, we're screaming "UNFAIR" to a trade off in life this insignificant? This is on the same level as my employer coming to me and saying we'll pay you millions of dollars per year to work here but you can't buy any silver vehicles as long as you're employed with us. (Silver is my favorite color on a vehicle). I think I could make that "sacrifice" and still live a very happy life.

When we're down to complaining about this we really don't have any real problems. I think Ridley will be just fine, even sitting out a year. Hell, he's already made what most of us would make in several lifetimes.

In Ridley's case, I suspect that he is dealing with some serious mental health issues. That would certainly impair ones judgement
