Yup, there is a LOT of murder going on that goes unnoticed. There is also a LOT of poaching going on that goes unnoticed too.

I get that there is a difference. I DO think the media glosses over what does not fit it's story line. There needs to be more attention paid to the murder cases around us. I do think we have become callous or at the very least acclimated.

However, IMO the story has merit, and the vilification is justified. I have actually been to Hwange, sat in a Jeep in the middle of a pride. I played with lion cubs in a wild animal orphanage who's entire pride was killed by poachers. I get the reason this particular case has resonated.

*Thanks* and *Like*

Well said.

For the record, I find the Cecil killing a rather wasteful act -- it serves no practical purpose. However, I feel absolutely no sense of outrage.

I think suggesting that the outrage is out of proportion is perfectly part of the discussion.
It is. I'll agree with that. I haven't said anything about the PP stuff, because I know the typical responses from the leftists on this board, as well as those on the other side of the issue.

Heck, I don't think there is silence on the PP stuff at all. I have seen unbridled championing and support of their practice and the mocking of those who find it deplorable. And I know that PP isn't the only human atrocity that you're referring to, but it seems that it's been used in comparison to this Cecil ordeal quite a lot and that's why I mention it.

I do as well.

I'm only suggesting if someone feels strongly enough something (such as a death injustice) and wishes to see more input - they should start a thread on that specific story/situation. That way the story gets more exposure and opportunity for commentary.

No doubt.

Any of the those wanting him killed for this is in my mind are way out of proportion, and I agree it gets over the top quickly. That said, I admit feeling a little bit of satisfaction seeing him suffer major consequences for the action, even if they are above what I think are truly justified. Hopefully it will cause others to think twice. If anything it dilutes the act of "getting the big 5 trophies"' in Africa to a point that it should never be thought of as the feat it used to.

NS threads meander often, and I honestly don't feel like this one has meandered much, if at all. We're still talking about Cecil.

Let me ask you a direct question. Do you think the life of an animal is equal to, less than, or greater than that of a human?

I agree Mittman.....this scumbag deserves all the wrath he is getting.....

I think that is over the top. If that is his office, there are others who work there who are getting dragged into this through no fault of their own.

There is no such thing as putting all humans in the same category value-wise.

Certain humans are despicable. Such as this one.....

Man forced teen to have sex with him, deputies say

A worker at New Destiny Christian Church has been arrested and charged with forcing a teenager with diminished mental capacities to have sex with him.

Joseph Averitt, 33, was arrested Wednesday after the victim alerted authorities.
According to his arrest report, Averitt told the teenage victim he had a crush on her last summer after he saw her in a bikini.

Soon afterward, he started giving her massages, and he eventually started fondling her, according to the report.

She told investigators they have had sex at least eight times over the last year.

She said one of those times was in a booth inside the church sanctuary.

She said another time was in his car while his wife was shopping at the mall. She told investigators his young child was in the car seat in the back at the time they had sex.
Averitt was arrested and booked at the Orange County Jail Wednesday.

At his first court appearance Thursday morning, a judge told him to have no contact with the victim or anyone under the age of 16.
I just pulled this one up a few minutes ago but you can find similar stories every day about humans that are predators on children - that doesn't sit very well with me. And this child had diminished capacity so you know the kind of creep you are dealing with here.

I would say in general that as adults we have the responsibility to look out for the innocents. The young.....and the pure of heart.

There is not enough time (or interest) to get upset about human murders, that are way too common. Just in Baltimore alone, 42 were murdered in each of the last two months. Murderers usually dont brag about it, pose smiling with their dead victims, or mount the victims severed heads on their wall either.
