I have to believe that when one of these teams that have a weak schedule play a team who has played a tougher schedule, the battle tested team will come out on top. There is a lot to be said about the mental side of winning big games.

What a joke. The problem with college football is that the conferences are not in any way whatsoever even, but this new playoff model pretends that they are.

It should be seeding only that determines byes

When they expanded the playoffs, they had to make sure the weak conferences get a participation trophy.

I meant respectable for them.

They lost on the road to the #1 team by 3 points and have wins over Wazzu and UNLV who at this moment are Bowl Teams.

So it's not egregious to put them at #12 right now.

Yeah, that is weird, but that is the system's nod to conference championships.
If you just seeded teams 1-4 as getting a bye, then it would be a real benefit to be the 3rd best in the SEC.

Because some idiot decided that the four highest ranked conference champions will get the top four spots and a bye - no matter how good they are, or even if they aren't ranked in the top 4. They need to change that next year to the top 12 teams, no matter who you are. But for this year we're playing everyone gets a medal football.

I don't know. Boise plays one ranked team all year - Oregon - and they lost that game. I'm pretty sure they will beat up on the rest of their schedule, but I don't think they'd survive the SEC.
