Admit it. If this were Bush Jr. the left would be saying how secretive he was being. I don't think there is anything to any of this but BHO did promise a new tone and an administration of openess and transparency. Why doesn't he just order the birth certificate in Hawaii be released and end this story?
This is the thousand dolaar question. It would seem unrealistic that a candidate would go through this process if he were ineligible to become POTUS but Obama's secretive response to this is what makes it an issue. Did not a court tell him he had to release the Birth Certificate into evidence and he refused? Instead he releases it to some liberal madia outlets creating even more doubt.

Re: Chief justice roberts agrees to hear obama qualification case

*sigh*

Is this something we really want to see happen? Is it any wonder that the Republicans have dug themselves a hole from which they will never climb out of?

This is really pathetic.
Agreed. Also, pointing to WND as a 'source' has the same credibility with the left as pointing to Daily Kos does with the right. It's kinda like pointing to the Bible and screaming at atheists that because the Bible says it's so, it's so. Probably not gonna convince'em that way ( even when true! ) !

As I understand the story, he was born in Kenya and was issued a certificate of live birth in Hawaii. His mother travelled to Kenya with his father for a little while. She was so close to term that she wasn't allowed to board a plane back to the States for fear of giving birth on the plane. Supposedly his paternal grandmother had been interviewed and stated that she was there and watched him being born in Kenya.
Aside from that, there is another story about his adoption by his stepfather in Indonesia which caused him to lose his US citizenship as a child. If he had gone through the proper paperwork when he came back he would be a citizen, but a naturalized citizen and still not eligible to be President. This story claims that he is not a legal citizen to this day. There is more surrounding that story but I gave the nutshell version.
Who knows the truth. I do agree he could make it all go away by just giving the documents that were asked for and end it. If you ain't got nothin to hide, then don't.
As far as the birth certificate that was posted on that website, I saw a video where a guy broke it down and proved it was a fake. Something about how the Hawaiian birth certificates were done differently then from now and some seal. Don't remember it all, but it's pretty convincing. It's on YouTube if anyone wants to track it down.

yep, and you can find folks on the internet that will tell you "WITH ABSOLUTE PROOF" that 9/11 was an inside job, the moon landing was faked, the earth is flat, uri geller can bend spoons with his mind, auburn is a top college football program, etc.

i am actually glad this childish silliness is taking up so much time and energy from those so concerned, because i was really worried that the Britain/Brown/DVD flap was going to be the straw that finally broke the camel's back ;)

because there is nothing to the story and as the president he has much more important things to do than respond to a stupid internet rumor?

of course that's just a guess at a possible answer

Re Snopes: Barack Obama's parents could not have obtained a Hawaiian birth certificate for a foreign-born child, as the statute enabling that was not enacted until 1982, 21 years after Barack's birth.

Please, just read this.

Well, that solves it, case closed. If it's on youtube, then it must be true!

I'm going to be blunt here but, there are just some people that refuse to accept a black person as president, especially one with "Hussein" in his name. Racism is the only reason this story still lingers around IMO. Folks need to get over already and move on, it has been proven that he was a born citizen, end of story.

I didn't even vote for the guy but, just because the guy I voted for didn't win dosen't mean I go around looking for reasons to crucify the one that did.

If I'm advising BHO right now, I realize he has much more important things to worry about than this "issue". That said, why not release the birth certificate, take the issue off the table, and move on to deal with those much more important things? Leaving it out there only allows people who are so inclined to make hay with it.

why is it that people who have a problem with BHO are immediately labelled as just using those problems as a cover for being racist? some people in this country are genuinely concerned about his eligibility. i think it is not too ridiculous for them to ask the basic question regarding proof of his eligibility. i dont care either way bc the constitution is meaningless today. however to some people it is still important. to immediately call them racist is a bit much. i am not sure if he has provided the proper documents. i dont know if his aunt/granny/sister saw him being born in kenya. however i think it would be simple to prove this once and for all and i dont understand why this is still going on. i dont care enough to delve into it but it is getting ridiculous on both sides now.

Link? If he refused a court order, he would be in contempt, and if that were the case, we would have heard a lot more about the issue before now.
I have not followed this case but...

Obama Refuses to Answer Birth Certificate Lawsuit
A Pennsylvania lawsuit alleging that Barack Obama is not a “natural-born citizen” of the United States took an unusual twist this week, after a federally mandated deadline requiring Obama’s lawyers to produce a “vault” copy of his birth certificate expired with no response from Obama or his lawyers.

Just his lack of comment and outright refusals are fueling a lot of this. It makes one wonder.

did you follow the snopes link earlier in the thread? he was born in Hawaii, period. there is no issue or question about his eligibility.

i'm sure some folks genuinely believe 9/11 was a set up job too. just because they believe that doesn't make their claims any less ridiculous, though.

(and just so every one is clear, i'm not making any claim that these issues are based in racism or bigotry)

well it seems like snopes and factcheck make a very strong argument in favor of BHO.

(just to clarify, this means BHO can now go back to watching Stewart thrash Cramer, and even have a little more time for jousting with Rush.)

And there are as many right wing "fact check "sites that say evidence supports the claims.

Obama is the only one who can clear this issue up and it is simple enough for him to do.

Am I crazy or did you just analogize WND to the Bible?!? Now I've seen it all.

WND is garbage. The OP "article" is written based on the account of a guy who cornered the Chief Justice at a speaking engagement, probably shoving some papers in his face and telling him to read 'em. The Chief Justice's exact words were probably "sure, whatever," whilst making the get-this-psycho-away-from-me face. Then this guy goes and writes it up for the WND to satisfy his conspiracy theorist fantasies and make himself feel important.
