Coach Nick Saban press conference

One clarification. Saban's comments about the 10/10's had nothing to do with the defensive line...it was about the entire team. He even said, "do you know how many times we had to line the entire team up and run 10 straight 10 yard bursts from the snap of the ball until we were able to get 10 straight without somebody jumping off-sides." The number was obviously horrible at first, but they improved over the course of the 5 weeks a good bit. We are (obviously) not where he wants us but said not a single player failed to improve significantly over the last 5 week period.

Also, NICK SABAN HATES evaluations!

University of Alabama Head Football Coach Nick Saban

2007 Pre-Spring Football Practice Press Conference

March 22, 2007

OPENING COMMENTS:

“Obviously we’re excited about the opportunity to get started with our football team here at the University of Alabama. This will be the first opportunity we have to actually get on the field, coach football, even though we’ve had five weeks. This is the fifth week of the off-season program which has been, I think, a very good program for us in terms of starting the process of building the intangibles that I think are very important in being successful relative to our team. Things like discipline, effort, toughness, conditioning, ability to sustain. Between the strength and conditioning program and The Fourth Quarter Program, the off-season program, the players have been very willing. I think we’ve made some significant improvements in some of those physical areas which hopefully will help us enhance our ability to sustain execution on the field when we get into spring practice.

I was very impressed with CMA. He sounded very composed and has that air about him that he is definately a winner. I am excited about the future of our Offense and the new attitude that these coaches are going to bring. From the little is saw of Coach Pendry I was just not that impressed. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I hope I am wrong about him.

He seemed great to me. I especially liked the comments about finding out what each player brings to the table and mold an effective unit out of the talent on hand. Rather than try to marry all the players to one particular scheme, he creates a scheme based on the available players' abilities. That, to me, is the sign of an experienced coach.

The atittude is so much different than it was with Coach Shula. At 50 I have not felt this fired up since Coach Stallings came into town. I knew then the Tide had turned. Again I get that feeling from the tone and the huge efforts by Coach Saban and his staff. A top 10 recruiting class few thought was possible. Not me. I see many great things ahead for Alabama and its time these young men know what its like to be winners. I am greatful for Coach Shula and his efforts but he was able to take the program so far. Coach Saban knows how to get to the next level and that is readily apparent at Alabama. I was certain of a Top 10 class and I am certain of future Championships. It will not take as long as most are predicting. Not by a long shot. All the materials to build on are onboard. Coach Saban is a Master Builder. :BigA:

I like how the old farts (Raita and Melick) think they can call Coach "Nick". Mitch Dobbs actually showed him some respect. The other two are clowns.

Yes I agree that Coach Saban has earned the title Coach. Those two sports drips are not on Coach Saban's list of professionals to talk to. He has more important things to do and has placed them on the Clowns to Ignore List. :biggrin2:

I just love it that it is plain and obvious that Coach Saban is taking this job as seriously as he has taken every other previous job. I'm not saying that I didn't think that he would, but I just wasn't sure since his hiring was, in a sense, very sudden and involved weird circumstances. My brother keeps jawing away about Coach Carroll and USC blah blah blah (I know I do it sometimes on here) and he comes off sounding like Saban could not get the job done. Saban will get the job done and I hope he will be here for a very long time.
