Are enough players struggling with the scheme to merit "simplifying" it? this is also a good question
Imo, the answer is a resounding no.
- Coach Saban's defense is as close to an NFL defense as you'll find in CFB. When we're recruiting the top flight guys, who you're worried about, that's one of the big selling points - You'll be more prepared for the NFL if you play here.
- As I've tried to show in this thread, talent evaluation is an inexact science. In fact, a lot of it is "projection." Some of the guys don't grow or continue developing; they reach they're peak earlier than some late bloomers. Some players just aren't as good as everyone thought they were.
- Regular students wash out of college at a huge rate. Girls, partying, home sickness, or maybe they just have to go to work to help out a struggling family. Football players aren't any different. Just like an academically gifted student that doesn't study, costing them a scholarship, some football players don't apply themselves to learning the game.
