Might have been posted elsewhere, but Zach Arnett is back at MSU at DC. Have we ever seen two fired HC's returning to the same school as a coordinator in the same season?

Well the Eagles lost their 5th game last night so the lunatic Philly fans will want everyone fired. Maybe Jeff Stoutland wants to come back?

I'm still flummoxed by them promoting Golding to HC. That's like when your Homecoming Queen girlfriend breaks up with you and you ask the ugliest girl in the class to the Prom, just to get back at her. Makes no sense.
Nice word! I am not flummoxed by the hire really. The bears were in a really bad situation the way Lane left and needed to steady the ship right before signing day. Golding is a great recruiter and we all know that the best football HC names were being chased by a lot of other big programs. Seems the sharks just said, ok, nip this thing in the bud for the sake of continuity and public image then kick the can until next year for the coaching search. I'd say Golding is a lame duck coach at this point already.
I watched his press conference yesterday. The guy is definitely different than his predecessor. And I wonder how long it will be be before the church crowd gets on his case for language. Dropped a few s-bombs along the way.
He is a capable DC, but a DC who wants to be HC had better get his OC hire nailed down. Lest he become another Will Muschamp.
I can't help but think that Ole Miss will take a step back next year, given the turmoil, the confusion leading up to the portal opening, getting a new staff in place, the number of one-and-dones on the roster as well as players getting poached (I'd bet Kewan Lacy tran$fers to LSU).
Golding(by all accounts I've heard) is a good recruiter. But this hire reminds me of the Mat Luke hire. Though, it's hard to compare since Matt Luke was always a glorified O-line coach, and not a good one at that.
I don't think the AD had too many options at that point. Kiffin had strung the process out so far that there weren't too many options left on the board. There had to be some kind of continuity going into the CFP.
Now, compare this transition with what happened at Iowa State last Friday. Matt Campbell was hired by Penn State on Friday. Before the day was over, Iowa State had hired Jimmy Rogers from Washington State. What that tells me was that Campbell had signaled his intentions to leave fairly early, and the school had time to vet and hire a replacement. It seemed like a really orderly process.
My memory may be failing, but this carousel certainly seems to be first time multiple coaches were hired quickly (a la Matt Campbell to PSU and his replacement hired) and that a couple former HCs returned to where they were fired to take coordinator jobs.
To say Golding is “rough around the edges” would be a huge understatement. It’s going to be like having the head of corporate maintenance fill in for the CEO at the stockholders’ meeting.
Pete could can possibly take lesson from Durkin’s interim job at Auburn this year after trying to wear both the DC and HC position. Auburn had not surrendered more than 24 points in any game up to that point. Durkin’s first game as HC his defense surrenders 42 to Vandy. Then their defense began the next game sleep walking against Mercer. And in the finale against us gave up 27 points to our offense that quite frankly had been struggling the back half of the season.
It will be interesting to see what the Ole Miss defense looks like in the playoffs and going foward next year. Will Golding take his hands off the defense and be more of the CEO type head coach or remain heavily involved in calling defenses?

Would be hilarious if the landsharkbears win it all and credits Golding for the Crown!
