All good points, with one caveat - I couldn't care less if someone is mentally ill, if they're a threat to public safety they need to be off the streets. I've been quite vocal that we need state-sponsored mental health care, but at the very least, those who are a danger to society should be locked up.

Just as vaccines are about the greater good, so should laws regarding public safety.

I agree as long as we can protect against abuse by people in power who would use this to 'imprison' their enemies. We are currently seeing a person in power bastardizing the law to get his way.

Eight teens from PA here in Polk to compete in football tournament arrested for felony retail theft at Posner Park.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has arrested eight teenagers who were caught in the act of conspiring to steal more than $2,000 worth of merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods in Posner Plaza, Davenport.

On Saturday, December 6, 2025, at approximately 10:55 a.m., PCSO deputies responded to a report of retail theft in progress at the Dick’s Sporting Goods. The store manager contacted PCSO after observing multiple juveniles concealing merchandise. Deputies arrived within minutes and detained all eight suspects, then began their investigation.

As a spouse of a mental health therapist (also in Orlando) I’m a bit shaken by this one. We moved across town recently but this murder took place VERY close to where we used to live (like feet…less than a 1/4 mile). Add to the fact that my wife is also named Rebecca and about the same age.

The number of homicides in 35 large U.S. cities declined 21% from 2024 to 2025, according to a report released by the Council on Criminal Justice, a nonpartisan think tank.

Researchers say if a similar decline is recorded in forthcoming FBI data, the homicide rate for the country as a whole in 2025 will have dropped to about four per 100,000 residents, which would be both the largest percentage drop in homicides in a single year and the lowest homicide rate recorded since 1900.
