Current (unofficial) projected 3-deep depth chart

Mack reclassified as a senior in high school so he’s just now 18. He may have a year of running the scout team at wash but I really have a hard time seeing him as the starter without any significant game playing time. I was very willing to admit I judged Milroe too harshly after the first few games but it is what it is. He’s got some serious issues that should have been corrected by now and they’re still glaring weaknesses. At this point I don’t see him picking up an offense as complex as the one we will be running. If I had to put money on it I’d say Ty starts and Milroe has a package he comes in and runs as a change of pace. Like Tebow his freshman year at Florida

Tyler Buchner knew Rees's system, yes. How many players decided to not give full effort vs USF? Who knows. Comparing Buchner/Rees to Mack/DeBoer is like apples and oranges.

Rees changed the offense to fit Milroe because Milroe couldn't run the entire offense.

One of our guys may be able to run DeBoer's offense so well he wins the job....that would be great. Mack has the upper hand though. We can keep saying Milroe will be a Heisman candidate, but if he doesn't improve his game he won't start in this new offense. I hope Milroe can do it and play well. I also hope the team doesn't "choose" Milroe and then stop playing if Milroe isn't the #1 QB.
Last year the team backed Milroe, because they LIKED him.
I hate to tell em, but Like isn't the reason to choose a starting QB.
I would like to have a QB that knows and can perform every play in the book. I would like to have a QB that recognized Defensive alignments, and knows what to do about them.
I don't care how fast he runs, if he can't throw a decent screen pass, If he can't read the defense fast enough to not get sacked...
He would not be my starter. We do not need a QB that can only use 1/4 of our plays. We need the man who learns the book and can execute all of the plays.

This is not a 3 deep chart but I saw it posted on the internet and thought it was interesting. It's a complete list of our current players including the new folks. Seems like we have 79 right now.

That is a good looking group right there. Lot of young players. Gonna need some help at TE but CB really needs to be shored up.

If Milroe doesn't win the job, I think Coach Deboer would be crazy, not having a package for Milroe coming off the bench..

Could you imagine being a DC, having too prepare for Coach Deboer's regular style of offense with a new QB running it, then having to prepare for Milroe & what he does best as well coming off the bench..

If Milroe doesn't win the job, he's just too good & talented, not using his skill set as well in this coming years offense at the QB spot..No matter if he's the starter or not..

For an offensive minded coach like Coach Deboer is, he should be salivating or foaming at the mouth, at the thought of having Milroe's skill set in his arsenal on the offensive side of the ball & using Milroe's talent every game as well.

Call me a crazy Alabama Football Fan, but, that's a DC's nightmare come true having a two headed monster at Alabama..

I think there's zero chance Milroe stays if he doesn't start. Finished 6th in Heisman voting so his phone would be ringing.

Exactly & I agree with you a million percent..

He'd definitely be gone if he loses the starting spot at QB..

I'd hate to see that happen & would be grateful he stuck around instead of bailing on us after Coach Saban retired like some players obviously did..

What makes a player successful? A lot of factors, I would argue, but especially for a QB:
  • Native talent.
  • System in which he working. (Could Tom Brady succeed in the offense the Ravens run today? I would argue no.)
  • Familiarity with that system
  • Familiarity and chemistry with other teammates, (for a QB that means o-linemen and especially receivers).
If Coach DeBoer had not come to Bama, and Milroe transferred to UW, would he be the favorite to start for the Huskies next September?
  • Native talent would be exactly the same.
  • The system would be different from what he played under at Bama. (I did not see Penix running nearly as much as Milroe did for Bama last year.)
  • His familiarity with the UW offense would be much less (as it is now at Bama under Coach DeBoer)
  • He would have little to no chemistry with his new Huskie teammates.
My point is that I am not at all sure Milroe would be the starter for the Huskies in his hypothetical transfer to UW. I would say that the situation Milroe now faces at Bama is much nearer my hypothetical Milroe-to-UW case. Same talent. Very different situation.

Penix had 35 carries for EIGHT yards this season. It's not an offense that features QB runs. Looking back over many seasons, it doesn't look like it ever really has been.

I would encourage those who aren't familiar with the offense UW ran under CKD to go to youtube and watch. There are more than several VERY GOOD videos where the person or persons break down the offense, the different types of plays run, and the blocking schemes that go along with them. Granted, I don't expect the offense to look exactly like UW's did because of talent differences at positions that may not have been the same at UW. However, I expect the overall nature of the offense to remain the same and I highly doubt there will be big deviations from what we see on video.

Because he knows this staffs system, it's that plain and simple.

One of the guys already here may rise up and win the job, but Mack has a huge upper hand. He's the only one not new to Deboer and his staff.
Remember that a lot of us thought the same thing about Tyler Buchner. He knew Reese’s system and should hit the ground running. Then we watched the South Florida game.
