I've seen quite a bit of talk on Zo Washington moving outside to a DE spot. Can anyone else see a scenario of CNS transforming his D to one centered on a stout front to stop the run and rush the passer? In other words,....

DE: Washington
DT: Chapman
NT: Cody
DE: Deaderick

I really, REALLY like the thought of these 4 jamming the LOS in 2008! It would mean the loss of a JACK, however, in most circumstances.

As far as I understand it, I think we may be going with more a 3-4 look this fall, unless we gotta go with a 4-3. Don't forget that we have Terrence Cody on campus now (well he's been on campus since early June) and supposedly, he's been doing very well in the pass skeletons with everyone else on the team. I'll be looking for him to be getting a lot of playing time.

CNS is going to be building up depth at all positions, but some, like the D-line, he's wants to get a rotation of guys so that they're all fresher at the end of the game. So the starting 4 may not necessarily always be the same 4 the whole game.

Our base defense is a 3-4, but depending on the offense and situation we face, the alignment can be a 4-3 or 3-3-5, and so on. So, I guess when we're in a "4-3" look you'll see:

DE Bobby Greenwood
NT Lorenzo Washington
DT Brandon Deadrick
DE/Jack Brandon Fanney

Of course things may be different this year, but last season one end would slide inside, as the Jack put his hand on the ground as a pass rusher.

I'd take the pass skeleton reports with a huge grain of salt when they pertain to Cody.

You cannot take anything of any merit away from how linemen look in pass skeletons, particularly a run-stuffing interior defensive lineman who likely won't see the field in passing situations. You can find out a decent amount about receivers, corners, etc., but not linemen.

With linemen, you have to wait and strap on the helmets and pads before you can really tell anything definite.

I'm MUCH more concerned with how he's holding up in conditioning drills (gassers, sprints, footwork drills, etc). They can be brutal in the summer...and if he can make it through the rigors of CNS' summer conditioning program and maybe shed a few pounds, he'll be ready to play ball at a championship level in the fall.

Watch out for McCullough. I watched the A-Day game again the other night, he's gonna be a stud.

I saw him play in HS and he looked a little overweight and out of shape, and he barely qualified academically if I remember correctly. Now he's in great shape (I remember one play where he ran Goode down from the other side of the field on an off-tackle play). He was also an Academic All-SEC. Looks like he's gonna be one of the great success stories of "the process."

Honestly I cannot see us being much of a 3-4 team at all with the depth concerns at LB we just do not have the personnel to attack with that style of defense. CNS is fixing the problem with a premium on LB's and should we be able to land NJ and TP then you could be looking at RM, JH, NJ and TP as the LB corps for 09~!~ WOW.....

Anyways I think we are better suited for a 4 man front because we have some talent and depth there, the emergence of Al Mc in the spring game at DE was impressive and I could see him taking the spot this fall. I would love to see
Cody Chapman ZO and Deadrick with greenwood and Mc coming in often~!~

We could have a very very good DL this year but then again we have all thought we would have a good OL the last few years too............... Again this year we SHOULD have a good OL but I hate to jinx us so I will say we will suck on the DL & OL ....... hopefully that will help~!~
