Trent hasn't been "busted" for anything as of yet. The incident two years ago was basically a misunderstanding and the guy was an auburn booster.

guessing it is now a violation for a player to run into a guy he's met before at a restaurant. there's not violation in a player talking or even hanging out with a booster, as long as he's not receiving any benefits from it. and there's yet to be any proof of that.
Correct, that's why I said it "looks like..." It may be an innocent bump, but your theory makes little sense to me. Trent and this guy having a relationship makes more sense. I just don't buy that players go out of their way to sign merchandise at someone's store & get nothing in return. Especially, when several of our players held signings at this same store shortly after their playing days were over...and they all were compensated. So, "I'll do it for free while I'm in college, but you have to pay me once my eligibility expires?" Just doesn't add up.

I also find it refreshing that UA released the C&D letter so quickly.

Boogs are having fun commenting that our guys always have different suits. So? Without regard to quality, one can come by a suit pretty cheap these days. The subtle suggestion there is that "poor black players" can't afford that sort of thing, but assuming that those players go to church even occasionally while at home with the family, that suit might come in handy. Last I checked, the "wear a t-shirt to church" fad had not struck the African-American community.

I share that concern, but it would make sense to develop a relationship while a player in hopes of earning something once you finish playing.

ttown is a small town and there arent exactly 100 Japanese restaurants. The entire population is basically boosters and students. You can't avoid a casual run in between the two and knowing they know each other why doesn't it make sense that they would take a picture together. or be grouped up to eat together at Japanese steak house that seats multiple parties together anyway.

I trust the compliance dept theyve been on top of things for a while now and if they say no one received benefits then I dont think they did. As you pointed out they took care of the Dareus situation

Im posing hypotheticals, and thats clay or brooks are doing as well. but unless there is smoking gun evidence or our compliance department finds something new, then theres no reason to assume its a violation.

I'm well aware of the makeup of Tuscaloosa...having lived there. I'm enjoying your positive spins & your blind trust in compliance. What smoking gun do you need? Photos clearly won't do it. Waiting for Trent to state on live TV that he broke a rule?

Ok, now this is starting to get worrisome. One instance of TR and this guy... ok, lots of easy explanations. Now, two separate instances... Coincidence, maybe. Who knows.

One thing that makes it seem unlikely to be wrong-doing is actually the pics, themselves. Anybody on the Bama team would know this is a huge no-no and would do this in a covert manner. Not like this.

I hope it comes to nothing, of course, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't starting to get a little nervous.

The pics don't lie and I don't like them. I wouldn't doubt TR gets suspended for a few games if not all of them. I really hate to say that.

Well I need more than Clay travis finding pictures and assuming violations. I guess we should assume that any situation that could be a violation if you twisted it enough is a violation.

I assume your the type to just assume the worst and I understand that, but until someone puts something out that actually shows a violation took place why should I have to assume one did because Clay is following up on info gathered and sent to him from operation red dog.

My trust in our compliance team isn't exactly blind. When Saban came in our compliance department has been on top of everything and investigated many things we know about and some we don't. But they've earned a degree of trust. Not to mention I've more or less learned that if you bite on every story blogs and Aubs throw at you then you'll basically believe anything.

Trust me I'm not fooling myself about anything. The store owner isn't looking good here and it may be time to disassociate him, however I won't apologize for having faith in our player intelligence and knowledge of NCAA rules, or my perspective on the issue.

This,, good post

The lack of faith in our own players by some is astounding..

These are the same people who claim AU is innocent and not underinvestigation.

I tend to agree RPC. Something tells me that this will go the way of all the other crap that the boogs have dug up that turned out to be nothing - like the Brent Calloway thing and ORD. Something about this doesn't click for me. I could be wrong, but if Trent was involved in doing something underhanded and getting money for his autographs, would he allow his photo to be taken in the very act?? I have to believe that our coaches pound compliance into these guys constantly, because Alabama has been in trouble so much the last 10 years, and these guys have seen what happened with the textbook issue, the fishing trip and Marcel Dareus being suspended last year. These pictures are enough to make some nervous because of all the stuff going on right now in college football, but do they prove anything yet?

If something against the rules HAS been going on, then Trent should be suspended and pay the price for doing something so stupid. But Trent is not a dumb guy - he's not a Cam Newton. He's very humble, and a smart kid. He has seen first hand with his own team mates how easy it is to get in trouble with the NCAA. And Bama's compliance department has been put through their paces so much over the past several years, I find it very hard to imagine that very much gets past them.

I could be wrong, but I'm not getting a feeling that this will amount to much in the long run. If it does, then I would surmise that it's virtually impossible for a University's coaches and compliance dept to totally keep a team out of trouble, because I doubt there's anyone who has tried harder than UA for the past 10 years.
