TUSCALOOSA | Local clothing store owner Tom Al-Betar received a cease-and-desist letter from the University of Alabama compliance office in December of last year requesting compliance with NCAA regulations prohibiting the use of a student-athlete's name, photograph or likeness to promote a commercial product or service, but a UA investigation into the matter found no rules violations or eligibility concerns.
Al-Betar owns T-Town Men's Wear in University Mall, which sells high-end men's suits and clothing. The storefront has signed Alabama items on display, and a source close to the situation indicated Alabama's December letter made specific reference to the sale or distribution of items autographed by current UA student-athletes. Phone calls to Al-Betar were not immediately returned.
Travis is trying to generate hits to his new website so that he can pick up $pon$or$.important to note that our guys do these kind of signings sometimes with UA and NCAA's permission. Clay gets the same info Brooks got but at 1 in the morning cant research it but makes sure he gets it on his website. And theres nothing in those pictures that constitutes a violation unless they were recieving benefits which again our staff would uncover and deal with.
Brooks gets it much earlier has a chance to look into it and tell Aubs to cool it.
Mostly remember its beyond our control, UA has a great compliance department and those pics are 8 months old not to mention our players know better. The University will likely address it in the morning and we will know one way or the other.
Reading comprehension isn't strong with the boogs. I hope the NCAA nails them to the wall for all they've done. The rivlary is unhealthy at this point.
I agree. Even if no wrong doing took place, it just doesn't look good.Sports by Brooks has picked this up, and is carrying on still about Brent Calloway.
Other more reputable reporters are making comment, too. Truth is, I want our guys to stay away from all of this.
Travis isnt wrong so much as he's beating a dead horse. He has pictures and is basically making up a narrative of possible violations without actually making any (posing them as hypotheticals). Brooks picked it up to vulture some hits off of it. All non bloggers whove reported on it have reported the only known facts, which are that UA knew about it, investigated it, found no wrongdoing, and ordered the store to stop using current players in its promotions, which it has. All the pictures and adverts at this point have come from before the december investigation time reported by UA sources. How did the title of this get morphed? Should I panic now and get worried about this? Is Travis wrong or has the system allowed a local dumarse to manipulate the program?!? Lord I hate this nonsense. I miss the old days...DT_bur2:
Right on, but I hope the thread was named more appropriately earlier.Travis isnt wrong so much as he's beating a dead horse. In short UA LOOKED INTO IT AND TOOK CARE OF IT. now clay just keep beating a dead horse and unfortunatly the more he does the more brooks will need to capitalize on it.
Its a lot like when brooks posted a list of payments to AU hostesses and implied (without saying it) that they were prostitutes, with not proof other than that Auburn pays its student employees. Message boards and sports talk gave that and other Blog generated stories more worth than they are worth and this one will be the same, sadly.
Easy answer, mods thought it was better. Since Im not a mod I dont know. Technically i think the former title was a sort of a teaser and a 9 page thread may have deserved a more descriptive title to prevent multiple threads on the same issue.By all means, I hope you're right, but how did we get get from "Clay was wrong" to "UA says no". That chance from people who I know are in the know, bothers me...

That's because it has very little to do with reality. They are adept at denial, distortion and projection irrespective of what the actual happenings are.I think what bothers me most is none of this should have ever happened. When we give the opposition fodder for their delusional rantings it irritates the crap out of me. Now, nothing you say or do will remove the idea from their heads.
