Diego Pavia seeking 7th year now

ah, the good old days!!
The 3rd sack is interesting. I was curious how that was drawn up and why it worked.
Before the snap, Bama and LSU line up like this:

It looks like Bama is going to overload the offensive left side.
At the snap, they do this:

The offensive right tackle has a choice to make. Do I block the defensive tackle lined up on my outside ear (the obvious choice) or do I look for a stunt (the secondary responsibility), or, wait a minute, why does the defense have two DBs to the right when we only have one receiver out there? Should I look for a corner blitz? (The correct choice). That is a tough ask for an offensive tackle to be agile enough to block a corner blitz. Maybe this was the running back's responsibility? But if Bama sends two corners from the offensive right side (which was what Bama did), there is only one running back on that side of the offensive formation. Bama's outside corner blitzed wide/deep, pulling the running back away from the more dangerous inside blitzing corner, and, in the end, they both got there. Mettenburger really had no chance.
Anyway, great play design and great disguise of who is actually coming.

What a great write up and read, Tidewater.
If you could make a post like this once a week, just pick any random excellent play and break it down like that I would be so much smarter with X's and O's

For sure. When he leaves, back to doormat status. Those enrollment requirements at Vanderbilt aren't going to satisfy themselves.
Not so sure - they opened up the purse to upgrade their talent across the board. No reason to believe they won’t continue to do so.

The era of bluebloods has come to an end - now, anyone willing to spend enough can be competitive. And Vandy has the cash…

Reactions: The Ols
I would think that he would want to come back if for no other reason than to try to etch his name in Vanderbilt football lore as the only Vandy QB to have multiple wins over Alabama.

that game always reminds me of this

Ahhh……the good ole days! Back when Alabama football players were actually college football players.

I don't know what the current system is, but it's definitely not football for college kids watched by college kids on college campuses anymore. It's professional football training league (NIL) watched by TV audiences (SEC Network, ESPN, ABC, FOX etc.) with money bet on the game (name your favorite online bookie) played by kids who should have graduated (3568 players this year have already graduated) a long time ago played sometimes on campus and other times in often random places (outdoor cocktail party, Ireland, Bowl games, etc.). Something has got to give.
