Here we go again. It seems like we had this discussion on this board last year. Yes, last night's game was embarassing. I was there. I saw that our team was completely whipped by Tenn. No other way to describe it. However, one game should not be reason to get rid of the winningest basketball coach in Alabama history -- not just the winningest women's coach but the winningest coach period. I agree Albertville Guy, his record speaks for itself. He has more wins than any other basketball coach at Alabama. He has the only Final Four appearance by a basketball coach at Alabama. He has also done this while in what is without a doubt the toughest women's basketball conference in America. When I first saw the team for this year, I knew that we would struggle against some of the top teams. We have only two seniors that are major contributors. The bulk of the talent on the team is in the sophmore class with a couple of good freshmen waiting in the wings. Add the kids who will be coming in next year and things are looking good for the program. Just remember, it only takes a couple of good recruiting classes to change a team from an SEC also-ran to a national contender. If you don't believe it, look at LSU. Three or four years ago, the LSU fans wanted to get rid of Sue Gunter. The LSU administration gave her the benefit of the doubt because she had been there so long (20+ years). Now, LSU is ranked No 2 or 3, depending on which poll you look at. It is amazing to me how fans demand absolute loyalty out of their coach but when the coach has a couple of years that are sub par (according to standards that that particular coach has set), the fans are ready to get rid of him. I personally think that we owe some loyalty to a coach who has had opportunities to move on for much more money but who chose to stay. Just my thoughts for what they are worth.
