Question: Do we really need to pull for Auburn to go 11-0?

I wouldn't pull for Auburn. Ever. I really don't care about them, I am an Alabama fan. It would be fun to ruin their undefeated season if it came to that, however.

Seems to me that as long as we beat the teams the barn loses to (Arky, LSU), it will help us just as much as beating an undefeated barn.
Oh yeah -- how did I forget about LSU? Make that three Barn losses (Arky, LSU, Bama) that I could absolutely, positively get behind.

Who am I really kidding, though -- unless they're playing Tennessee, I don't think it's possible for me to watch an Auburn game and honestly hope they win. And since Tennessee is garbage at the moment, I might even pull for UT in that matchup now.

The computers won't care.
But, the human polls would treat us much better to crush an undefeated top 5 team to end the year. That carries a lot of emotional weight - moreso than beating a team that was seen as decent at the time, then at the end of the season in retrospect is seen to be an elite team. It would create "buzz."
Yeah, you're probably right about that human "buzz" factor, as much as I wish it weren't the case. Hopefully it won't matter either way.

The ONLY rationale is that it could potentially help bump us up into the #2 BCS spot, but even that depends on a lot of other factors, all outside of our control except us winning the games left on our schedule and the SEC-C. If it were to turn out that way, in a future point of retrospect, I'd be thrilled. Suffering those Auburn wins would end up being worth it.

It's a long shot as it is but just to play with the idea: Can you imagine how Auburn would feel if their wins only help bump us into the BCS championship if we beat them in November? (Remember one reason they didn't go to the big dance in '04 was Bama was weak that year. How would they like knowing that their strength only bumped us into the championship bracket.) You think they hate us now? Let that scenario play out and you'll see conspiracy theories that make last years seem reasonable. Since it is an extreme long shot, I will hope for the satisfaction of watching Auburn lose every week from here on, but with every win, hoping for the unlikely push we would need.

There's still a LOT of football to be played, and we still have a lot to play for, but if Auburn loses it won't cost me any sleep.

Not me ever...my number one team is Alabama and number 2 is who plays Auburn and I will root for them with gusto.

Out of tOSU, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Oregon, we need 4 of the 5 to lose. Then, if we win out, the rest of it should take care of itself. I still believe if we win the rest of our games, we'll leap frog Boise State and TCU.

Agreed. It helps that one of those is guaranteed to lose (OU or Nebraska - which, by the way, why is the University of Oklahoma called OU anyway?).
But, what would happen if MSU and OSU win out, but everyone else loses? I think we would have a Michigan State/Ohio State national championship game, but man, that would generate some serious criticism.
The chances of that happening are slim to none anyway.

That's a nauseating thought. Hopefully, Wisconsin or Iowa will take of tOSU.

We don't want Auburn to be 11-0 going into BDS for the following reasons:

1. IF they do actually win, they go undefeated and get a shot at the BCSCG. NEVER a good thing.
2. Recruiting. A strong Auburn program makes it harder for us to recruit.
3. Ego. I can't stand hearing all year how a 11-1 Auburn team was so good.
4. Playing an 11-0 Auburn isn't that much more different than a 8-3 Auburn. There are outside factors (i.e. other undefeated teams ahead in the polls) which matter far more.

Off topic, but they do a lot of that in the Big 12...

Oklahoma: OU
Nebraska: NU
Kansas: KU
Kansas State: KSU
Missouri: MU
Iowa State: ISU
Baylor: BU
Oklahoma State: OSU
Colorado: CU

In fact, only 3 of the 12 teams (UT, TT and TA&M) don't go by something-U. I guess it's a Big 12 thing.

EDIT: Actually, I believe Texas Tech does as well (Texas Tech University). So only 2 (UT and A&M) aren't something-U.

Within the SEC, I have no emotional connection with any team other than Alabama. I watch games with curious interest with no concern for the final outcome. Don't like the aubies so I never pull for them to win, but it really doesn't matter if they do. All I want from the barn is for them to garner another L at the final regular season game each year. otherwise, meh, don't care.

The whole pro SEC thing during non-conference games is simply backwash from the anti-SEC sentiment that has really gone into hyper drive in the last decade. So general I prefer SEC teams to win. But if they don't /shrug.

If the barn goes 11-0 before Bama, fine. If they go 0-11 before Bama, fine.
