What are yall thoughts about the potential of UNC making a bid for the SEC?

If the acc collapses I could see the big 10, 12, and the sec all going to 24. But barring the acc collapsing I doubt very much there will be any substantial expansion.

If that does happen I’d think the sec would take- fsu, Clemson, GT, unc, duke, uva, Louisville, nc st/va tech/tulane/memphis

Love the different perspectives. This is a fun discussion IMO.

Living in NC, as I said, I'd love to see SEC expansion (if it happens) to include us!

The ACC is eventually going to fail, it's just a matter of time. The anchor schools like Clemson, FSU and UNC have been threatening for too long now. So if it's inevitable, it's probably better that the SEC is proactive in going after the schools it wants rather than being reactive and settling for the leftovers. FSU, Clemson, UNC, UVA, Miami, Duke and Stanford will be the primary targets. The rest of the schools will take what they can get and probably end up being absorbed by the Big 12 and we will be left with 3 super conferences. Well really two super conferences, and one conference of former power 5 leftovers.

It's always about money and it always has been. The idiot commissioners of the PAC-12 found out how concrete feels when you think you can fly.

Football was always a loss for most programs but kept alumni interested and donating, which kept schools alive and their sometimes-moronic administrators paid. It's been pro ball since paid coaches and football "scholarships". OTW, why not intramurals? That's your true college sports activity.

Now that coaches and even players are millionaires and the schools are making record money from television, it's become impossible to fool ourselves any more.

17 members are in the ACC right now. 16 in the SEC. 18 in the Big 10. 16 in the Big 12. Typing those last two is still funny to me.

With the Big 10 getting Oregon, Washington, UCLA and USC.....would we try to get Stanford and Cal from the ACC when we also get FSU, Clemson, Duke, NC, and Virginia.....and throw in Virginia Tech or Georgia Tech to make 24 teams.

Big 10 adds BC, Pitt, Syracuse and WF?

Big 12 gets whatever is left after the SEC and Big 10 take their picks.

At what amount of teams do we stop? There are 67 teams in the 4 power conferences currently. So maybe the SEC and Big 10 go to 24 and the Big 12 goes to 19?

I hate the idea of adding more teams, regardless of who it is. There's already 16, and that is plenty. Adding more is a bad idea, specially if they end up doing the expanded playoff model that only has 1 at large bid.

Is it seven or eight schools that have to leave the ACC to make it not viable and nullify all conference agreements? Or was that just an unfounded theory I read?

IF the SEC expands again, I'd love to see it tap into the ACC, namely NC and Virginia.

It's been said that NC and Duke would likely both have to come if one did. It would make perfect sense if we went that route to add Virginia and Va. Tech and call it a day.

I admit I'd love to see this if for no other reason, but a selfish one. I'm 2.5 hours from Chapel Hill, Durham and Blacksburg and just about 4 from Charlottesville.

Most people think Virginia is a better candidate for the B1G, so we could just go all NC and add NC, Duke, NC State and Wake Forest.

Want to go real crazy, add Appalachian State University...
Dude... My youngest daughter's #1 college is App State at the moment... Can we get them playing the Tide by next year???

Hah!

I am intrigued with the possibility. The North Carolina area has excellent recruiting and untapped markets for SEC media. Football, Basketball, Baseball are all competitive sport for the Tar Heels. I think they are a natural fit. What say you?
Surprised, I saw them as a better fit for the BIG 10, but I'm glad NC is interested in the SEC.
Bill Bellicheck(sp) is likely the reason they want to join the SEC.

I think it was more than half the members or something like that? I remember what you’re talking about but don’t remember the details. They’ve signed new agreements since then tho so I dunno how that all works. I think they’ll stick it out till the current tv deal runs out and that will be the make or break point.

If those rumors are true that UNC prefers the SEC, it's another reminder that the SEC holds the leverage when it really counts. Even though the B1G has more schools, older money/alumni base, and larger geographic footprint, they're still playing catch-up in competition and influence

It might not be Belichick directly, but them hiring him would come from the same way of thinking that would have them prefer the SEC

IMO, the primary problem, and it’s a big one, is the SEC has the dullest big-time commissioner in the country. He’s been given a diamond but he’s turning it into a lump of coal.
