Question: Do we really need to pull for Auburn to go 11-0?

I've seen several times that we need to pull for Auburn to be undefeated when we play them.

Is that really the case? Doesn't it make just as much sense (if not more) to pull for Arkansas to beat Auburn this weekend? That way, our resume could potentially include a road win over an 11-1 Arkansas team, as opposed to a home win over an 11-1 Auburn team.

Is the rationale that a season-ending win over a top-5 Auburn team will carry more weight than an early-season win over then-No. 10 Arkansas? Or maybe it's that Auburn has a better chance to go 11-0 than Arkansas has to go 11-1? Thoughts?

I dunno -- I know we're pretty much supposed to be pulling for all our opponents to win, but pulling for Auburn to go 11-0 just makes me feel filthy.

Assuming that the victor of that game doesn't lose another game this season (except aubie to us if they win), it is probably a wash. Either way we have a victory over an 11-1 team to help with the computers. It would also really, really help if USCe goes the rest of the way undefeated.

We need to worry about us and us only. This week and this week only.

If we don't win the rest of our games it doesn't matter if they're 11-0 or 6-5.

The only thing that matters is Ole Miss.

As much as I hate to say it I think we do want them undeafeted. I believe this would help in both polls and computer rankings when we kick their butts. Of course we are going to need some help with other BSC undefeateds losing.

I'm not going to pull for Auburn to be undefeated, but I think it would benefit us more to beat an undefeated Auburn team at the end of the regular season. Whoever said it won't matter to the computers is right, but I think the human voters will be more impressed with a win over an undefeated rival at the end of the year than remembering that we beat an 11-1 Arkansas team.

Alasippi is right though, that's putting the cart before the horse. We should be more worried about winning out, which requires beating Ole Miss this weekend. Everything else will fall out however it falls out.

An undefeated Auburn would be huge for them in recruiting & it would give the Barner Players enough of a ego boost to squeak out a win at the IB(even though we're have more talented Players)..So I hope they lose the rest of their games from here on out..That's JMHO..

Seems to me that as long as we beat the teams the barn loses to (Arky, LSU), it will help us just as much as beating an undefeated barn.

The computers won't care.
But, the human polls would treat us much better to crush an undefeated top 5 team to end the year. That carries a lot of emotional weight - moreso than beating a team that was seen as decent at the time, then at the end of the season in retrospect is seen to be an elite team. It would create "buzz."

And, I care about going undefeated first and foremost, so yeah, Ole Miss is priority #1. But, I will still think about these scenarios. That's one of the treats of being a fan.
