Yes Red in this case I think it is. 100 years from now it will not matter what kind of job we had, car we drove or house we lived in.
True, but that's not even the point being discussed. So why bring it up? You could say 100 years from now, it wont matter if I was a drug dealer my whole life and suddenly found God on my deathbed, because it all ended well. While that may be true, it's not what we're talking about. We could go off on any number of tagents, but I'd rather not.

I'm not saying the way you look or the way you dress is the most important thing. But appearance does matter.

Say that there are two restaurants side by side that serve the same food, but one has paint peeling off and, dead plants outside, and a faded tin roof while the other one has recently been renovated with fresh paint, landscaping etc.

9 people out of 10 are going to go to the place that "appears" to be better. Whether we want to admit it on here or not, we're drawn to what "looks" better. It applies to our personal appearance as well.

Wear your jersey with pride if you want, anyone and everyone, but it's just not for me. You never know who you're going to run into or who you'll meet. I was out the other day and met one of our potential congressmen. I was glad I was dressed the way I was. If I had been wearing a t-shirt or jorts, I'd have felt pretty stupid. You dress for the position you want in life. You wont find many lawyers or Dr's wearing jerseys out in public, just like you wont find many lawyers or Dr's wearing baggy jeans with the underwear sticking out.

(As an aside, I'm not a Doctor or a Lawyer, I just used those as examples.)

This will be my last post on this. I don't own an Alabama jersey because it's not my style. I find nothing wrong with anyone who wants to show their support for our Crimson Tide in that way. I think it is sad for any of us to make such a silly judgement.

at my office, people regularly wear jean and tennis shoes. even t-shirts a lot of the time. a jersey wouldn't look that out of place.

I voted "no" in the above poll and several times throughout this thread I've stated that I think it's fine if someone else wants to wear it, it's just not for me. But yes, I've also given my opinion as to why I think the way I think. But then again, that's what this board is intended for. Conversing, discussing facts, and opinions, but not rumors.

By the way, the fact that you think it's "sad," for someone else to voice their opinion on a board full of opinions, is . . . well . . . a judgement.

And that's ok . . .we all judge. I do it too. We all do it in some way shape or form and we can't help it. It's just in us to do it. People who dress nice to a ballgame might judge those who wear jerseys as "childish" (or whatever word you choose to use), just like those who wear jerseys to games might judge those who dress up as "snobs" (or again, whatever word you choose to use.) Even if that opinion or judgment has never been voiced, it's gone through your head.

But no matter what, we can all agree that we're supporting the Tide, come hell or high-water, we're all on the same team.

We're talking style vs substance here IMHO. I go to a chiropractor twice a week for my back. He has long hair, a beard, wears jeans and nikes and he's one of the smartest guys I know, and the best chiro I've ever had. He's also the highest degree blackbelt you can get and I doubt seriously if anyone questions his mode of dress. My attorney is one of the top guys in the entertainment business. He's got so much money that nobody in their right mind would question him wearing jeans and nikes to the office. He does have a "spote coat" he keeps in the trunk of the car for court appearances, but those are rare since he does mostly contracts. Some of his other clients range from Don Henley to Francis Ford Coppola. None of his clients could give a flip. They come to him because he's brilliant. If you're not brilliant, I guess you have to put on the dog, but it's always been the "lipstick on a pig" scenario in my eyes.
I've been a tennis shoe, jeans and sweatshirt guy all my life and it's never had affected my business relationships in any way. I think anyone worrying about what others think is taking themselves or appearances way to seriously. I guess if you're hanging out with some dweeb politician, you could win some brownie points by wearing an Armani suit (which I have 2 of hanging in my closet that I only wear for weddings and funerals), but I don't hang out with those guys because they're generally less about substance than folks I actually like to hang out with.

I've always heard that you dress for the position you want in life. Is it wrong for me to want to find out of that's true?
I want to find out too!!! I have always wanted to play linebacker, if all of this is true, I need to go buy a # 30 Hightower jersey!

I used to wear jersey's all the time, but I have changed my mind. As I have grown up I have begun to dress more like a man. Men do not wear football jerseys. I am not saying you have to wear a suit, but at least a golf shirt and khaki's.

So when a man wears a jersey and shorts to the ball game he is saying he has little respect for the team and for the games itself.

 Out of respect for this forum, I'm not going to say what I really want to say about this particular little phrase but sir, be careful who you say that too, they may not be so forgiving. Considering where you live, I'm going to chalk that one up to your particular lifestyle.

You're the expert in respect according to whom? You're basically saying that probably, I don't know, say 50,0000 people at least who faithfully support their team have no respect for the game. I call BS on that one.

For some reason when I think of adults wearing jerseys, it makes me think of Ohio State fans.

My personal rule is that once you graduate high school, no more jerseys unless you're actually on the team.

I voted "no". However, I don't believe that I've worn a jersey after I turned 25. I guess that I find it weird to idolize someone so much younger than me. Though, like many have stated, to each his own. I like the look of our jersey and looked darn good in mine, but now I opt for a cotton t-shirt.

Growing up, my grandfather was on the Board and we sat in the Box so I always dressed up. In college, as a freshman sorority girl I always wore a dress, hose, and heels (top that, guys!). After that season, I went to sundresses and skirts with sandles. I have always dressed up for games and I always will. I just think it is a sign of respect. Leave the jerseys for the young men playing the game.

Oh-and I think Coach Saban should wear a suit the way Coach Bryant and Coach Stallings did, JMO.

I prefer to simply wear our colors, like a crimson colored golf shirt or button down shirt. Sometimes it may say Alabama, sometimes not. But on the Jersey thing, like many others have stated here, even though I don't feel it's appropriate for me (being over 40), I don't fault anyone else for doing it. Whatever you feel comfortable in. Actually I would prefer to see a stadium full of people in Alabama jerseys if it meant that we could put the "head to toe Houndstooth" outfits back in the closet. An Alabama jersey represents the timelessness of the Alabama program. Houndstooth represents only about the last 12 years of Coach Bryant"s persona. And please don't flame me if it comes across as disrespect to Coach Bryant - nothing could be further from the truth. Just my personal opinion that we need to scale back on the Houndstooth mania that seems to have really exploded in the past 5 years.
