This post reminds me of the resignation of the fact I spent nearly six figures to obtain a seminary education and haven't had a religious discussion with anyone since the day I left - because they're pointless.

Not entirely pointless if a CONVERSATION sharing different perspectives takes place rather than each person spouting their beliefs and not listening to the other. I had a whole cadre of people who attended worship not because they were deep believers, but because they were curious and I was not close-minded. Now, some of the "fervent believers" decided other churches were better for them...C'est la vie.

Not entirely pointless if a CONVERSATION sharing different perspectives takes place rather than each person spouting their beliefs and not listening to the other. Now, some of the "fervent believers" decided other churches were better for them...C'est la vie.

Yeah - but mostly people either want affirmation in something ridiculous or to fight, too.

There ARE exceptions - but I find them rarer as I get older.
