I hate to see this type of negative publicity for any student athlete...but especially for someone so highly (no pun intended) regarded as Dre. Worse part (for me) is - it sets a bad example for the kids who look up to him. Easy for us as outsiders to pass judgement I guess but that in itself points out how transparent the lives of these gifted athletes are and how much of an impact their actions have on others who look up to them. They have to be in a "pressure cooker" I'm sure but that goes with the territory. He will be making good money soon I'm sure...but I wish this didn't have to happen if for no other reason but for it's effect on kids who look up to him as well as his own self-respect, which has no doubt suffered a ding.

On ESPN its listed on the bottom line under "NFL". I'll wait until more info is out. I just hate if its true how the NFL interview will go for him. It could hurt him some, the stuff is not legal for a reason. I have never had any and do not drink anything but Ice tea and Milk. But we are not to judge him or throw any rocks.

I wonder if Coach Saban will address this? Good Luck Dre and hope you learn from this.

Personally, I find it hard to believe there are still people in this country that place some moral weight on the use of marijuana. Yes, it illegal and the best comment I have read here is the Dre needs to make better choices but I am betting the "holier than Dre" types here have stuff in their closets that would make Dre blush. I say he earned a good toke but probably should have at least mustered the patience for a 10 hour flight to Amsterdam.

I love the idea that some people think if THEY do something that it is alright for athletes representing The University of Alabama football to do it as well.

Guess what people, IT'S NOT!

We don't care what you people do in your little dorm rooms, but we do care when someone who wears a Crimson jersey does it!

It illegal and against NCAA and Alabama athletic policies and rules and that is what makes it wrong

I think Amsterdam actually banned it within the last year. My friend went there for a farewell tour. It really is ridiculous to judge the guy like he hurt someone or something. To me it is not as bad as getting hammered and peeing on a sidewalk or getting into a drunken bar fight. Like you say it is against the law but people who do it aren't bad people. It was a poor decision and hopefully he will learn from it since the punishment while the punishment is still light.

Nope, Amsterdam is still rocking. I was there for part of the week of Thanksgiving. You can still walk into a cafe and order off the menu with no hassles; however, they are considering banning it to non-eurpoeans. I think it wont happen because their cash crop is pot. They have nice museums and the Heineken Factory is cool, but their main attraction is pot.

Definitely disappointed that it happened, but not a big deal. If this is the worst thing that ever happens to him, he'll probably be ok.

I suppose it could have an adverse affect on his draft stock, but there's a lot of kids every year that test positive for marijuana at the NFL combine and it doesn't really seem to affect them much.

These kids are allowed to make a mistake believe it or not. It's not as if he was out drunk and partying with strippers or anything....

I think we should all still be proud to have Dre Kirkpatrick represent the University of Alabama, and glad that he will always be remembered as one of the faces of the best defenses college football has seen in many, many years.

Since he's done with his eligibility this has no meaningful impact on our team. If this had happened during the season it would be a TOTALLY different issue. He's really only hurting himself, is that a crime? Oh wait, it is (Land of the free you know).

I'm not too upset about somebody smoking weed. I'm much more concerned about things that, you know, actually hurt other people.

The way I look at it is he is innocent until proven guilty. He will get his day in court. What if he submitted a urine test at the station and it was clean? What if it was the drivers pot? The only person that can honestly answer that question is Dre. I will not pass judgement on him. I could be wrong and it could be his, but that would be his decision to live with.
When I was in school pot was very readily available. I would say everyone I hung out with except me and another guy smoked it regularly. They are now TV producers, teachers, lawyers, and scientists for NASA. A lot of people do it. I don't agree with it since it is illegal, but it is no different than alcohol. To bad he wasn't in Cali and he could say it was medicinal.;) Hopefully he learns from this and moves on.

It's called not being a hypocrite. If I do it or see nothing wrong with my peers doing it (or in your case "don't care" what we do), why then should I become beside myself because a former athlete of my University does it?

Yeah me too. So why is it so dang hard to score these days?? Can somebody hook me up? I assure you it's strictly for medicinal purposes only. :biggrin2:

Ugh, Dre really needs to not be a knucklehead right now, but I still think he goes top 10 in the draft(in fact, I'm thinking that my Jags probably will take him at #7).
