We're hunkered down here in Gulfport, MS. We aren't expected to take the brunt of the storm based on the latest report. Still gonna take a bit of a lick but manageable. Not sure how manageable it'll be for the S. Louisiana folks if it stays on the current track. Cat 4 is serious stuff and that's the expectation at the moment. I'll be watching closely throughout tomorrow though because I think even a little shift to the east can be a game changer for the NOLA/MS Gulf Coast. Roll Tide and GTH Ida!

Unless you’re above Katrina’s high water mark, you might want to rethink staying. You’re on the bad side of the storm unless she jogs significantly to your east. Sixteen years ago yesterday, my husband and I were enjoying a sunny day in NOLA’s French Quarter. Sixteen years ago today, when they projected landfall at a CAT 4/5, we got the heck out of Dodge! We were in Ocean Springs, right on the Back Bay. We ended up with an estimated 23ft of surge through our house and evacuation was the best choice for us.
God bless you and yours. Let’s hope it hits at low tide and as many people as possible are able to evacuate.

Bay of St Louis and Biloxi probably got hit with more destruction than New Orleans because of where they were on the storm.

I’m more concerned with wind than flooding. Our house didn’t flood during Katrina so I feel good about that. But the wind does have me concerned.

I live in Panama City Florida and we are still recovering from Hurricane Michael from Oct 2018. This Feb., after two and a half years of litigation, we were finally able to replace our roof and are still repairing. Michael was a wind event which devastated our community unlike Hurricane Opal in October of '95 which devastated our community with flood waters, not wind. Hurricanes are unpredictable and can upend your world with wind and/or water. Speaking from much experience and with great sincerity my prayers go out to everyone in the path of Ida. Be safe!🙏

I'm wondering in Mobile how much to prepare. We're surrounded by pines.. Katrina brought 60mph sustained winds to Mobile, so I'll at least bring the birdfeeders and plants inside.

@deltatider stay safe - gonna be pretty nasty in Gulfport too.

One of my best friends moved to LaPlace, LA. I've offered up our place for her & family. Storm surge models show her house in 6 ft of water, but they want to stay - said they gassed up the boats.

They live here - no way I'd stick around right by levees.

Seems like staying there is not a good idea. I hope they leave before it's too late.

Not good. Lived and worked in the LaPlace area years ago. WAY too much water and low ground in that area for a storm like this.

I have a friend and former colleague that retired and moved to Gulfport last year. Iirc he’s about 8 blocks from highway 90. He’s bugging out this morning.
My brother lives in Gulfport less than half mile from the shore. He and his friends are going to ride it out. They are in a large cinder/cement building and feel pretty safe.

I grew up in FL, so I get it. But those strong buildings flood just as easily as wooden structures.

I've seen enough that I'd not be that close to landfall unless I were in a submarine.
