If anyone is so inclined, folks are already reaching out for rescue. In addition to the Cajun Navy, this organization gets volunteers and sends people to help.

A few years ago, I did similar after Hurricane Harvey. It helps. At the time, I only entered help tickets, and made phone calls to follow up. I used to work emergency management - & even though everyone does their best - help is always wanted, and many people just don't know how to get help.

There's already tons of people on twitter trying to get rescue. Some 1/2 mile from my friend.
If you aren't committed, that's completely understandable - but if you see someone reaching out & their house is flooding, etc, tag their address (hopefully phone # too) with #idasos #idarescue.

And the water is still coming up.

just wanted to put that out there in case anyone feels compelled to help but just doesn't know where to begin.

I'm wondering in Mobile how much to prepare. We're surrounded by pines.. Katrina brought 60mph sustained winds to Mobile, so I'll at least bring the birdfeeders and plants inside.

@deltatider stay safe - gonna be pretty nasty in Gulfport too.

One of my best friends moved to LaPlace, LA. I've offered up our place for her & family. Storm surge models show her house in 6 ft of water, but they want to stay - said they gassed up the boats.

They live here - no way I'd stick around right by levees.

Sounds like they're getting hit hard, hope they've made it out!

They did not. She texted me a picture of the kids with water to their ankles. People a block away are stuck in their attic. I told her to take a hatchet, put her phone in a ziplcok, write her & the kids names on their arms, and either get in a boat, or stay as dry as possible & eventually to the roof. We called the Cajun Navy to her address. She can get mad if she wants.
Her oldest is a teenager, and the youngest 12, so much easier than babies in an emergency - & the oldest is full grown man size & strong.

Cajun Navy is out, and CrowdSource will be in the morning.

What a mess, not as bad as Katrina, but bad. We were sent over to help out in New Orleans around 1800 last night but wasn’t able to do much. Conditions were to dangerous. Why people stay in those low lying areas is beyond my comprehension. Wanted to thank all of you for the prayers. Stay safe and Roll Tide!

Yeah, that's one of the things. My ex-FIL used to bristle with anger when folks were criticized for not evacuating during Katrina. Recalling the poverty of his youth it was, "Where the hell were they SUPPOSED to go? They don't have a savings account for a hotel room!"

I'm in River Ridge, LA, (southwestern New Orleans area, inside the levee system). We left and went to my Uncle's house in the Fort Morgan area. He's on the bay and somewhat protected. I've heard my house lost some shingles, but is mostly okay. Trees and fences down all over. Trying to get back in to clear out the refrigerator and pick up a few things. We've heard no water service for about a week, and no power for three weeks or more. Apparently some big power transmission poles for Entergy collapsed. For New Orleans, Ida was far wetter than Katrina, and that late northernly jog put a of bad stuff right over the entire New Orleans area.
